Edward Newborn was baptised on 11th January 1747 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, the second of five children of Mary Newborn, formerly Rowell, and her husband Edward Newborn. Newborn and Mary Rowell.

On 30th June 1771, when he was 24 years old, he married Mary Lambert. Over the next 22 years they had 12 children baptised at Barnack, apparently including two sets of twins. At least three of the children died young. Edward's father died in 1773. It is not clear when his mother died.

Edward's first known grandchild (his daughter Catherine's daughter) was born in 1796.

In 1798 Edward was assessed for land tax for 4 shillings, and he was described as a tenant of the Earl of Exeter.

Edward had at least 35 grandchildren born in his lifetime. He seems to have lived his whole life in Barnack. He died at the age of 75, being buried at Barnack on 13th October 1822. Mary outlived him by ten years.

This baptism has been linked to the Edward Newborn who married Mary Lambert in 1771 on the basis that it is at about the time suggested by his burial record and in the same parish in which the adult Edward appears to have lived all his adult life. Moreover, Edward and his future wife Mary Lambert appear to have witnessed the marriage of Edward's sister Ann to Thomas Fancourt in 1769. In return, Thomas Fancourt then witnessed Edward and Mary's marriage two years later.
