Edward Newborn was baptised on 24th November 1782 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, the sixth of twelve children of Edward Newborn and Mary Lambert.

In 1807 Edward married Alice Halford. She was originally from Toft in the parish of Witham on the Hill in Lincolnshire, although at the time of their marriage she was living at nearby Braceborough. Only their marriage licence has been found; it has yet to be established where they actually married. It does not appear that they married at either Braceborough or Barnack.

Between 1808 and 1819 they had five children. The first three were baptised at Barnack between 1808 and 1812. They then moved to Thurlby by Bourne in Lincolnshire, just east of Alice's native Toft, where the younger two children were baptised in 1816 and 1819.

Edward's father died at Barnack in 1822 and his mother there in 1832.

By the 1841 Edward and Alice had settled back in Barnack, where Edward worked as a gardener. In the 1841 census Alice's sister Sarah was living with them.

Edward died on 12th March 1853, aged 70. Alice survived him by 23 years.
