Catherine Newborn was baptised on 27th March 1774 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, second of twelve children of Mary Newborn, formerly Lambert, and her husband, Edward Newborn.

When Catherine was 22 she had a daughter, called Esther. Eighteen months later, Catherine married a blacksmith named Thomas Cox, with whom she went on to have another three children: Matthew in 1800, William in 1802 and Sophia in 1805.

Catherine's son Matthew was married in 1821, and Catherine's first grandson was born later that year. The following year, Catherine's father died.

Thomas died in 1830, when he was said to be 62 years old. In his will he left two houses at Barnack (both of which appear to have been let to tenants) to Catherine for her lifetime, presumably so as to provide her with an income. He also left Catherine "such articles of my household furniture and linen for her life as she may think proper to select".

After Thomas's death, Catherine appears to have lived with her son William, who remained in Barnack and also worked as a blacksmith.

Catherine's mother died in 1832.

The 1841 and 1851 censuses each find Catherine living with her son William and his wife (another Catherine) and children in Barnack. Catherine had 23 grandchildren, all born in her lifetime, although some died young.

Catherine died on 28th October 1851 at Barnack, aged 77.

    Catharine D[aughte]r of Edw[ar]d & Mary Newborn - Mar[ch] 27

This baptism has been linked to the Catherine Newborn who married Thomas Cox on the basis that it is at the right time and place to match the age and birthplace she gave in the 1851 census, plus one of the witnesses to Catherine's marriage to Thomas Cox was John Brumhead, who was married to Ann Newborn, younger sister of the Catherine the subject of the 1774 baptism.
