Mary Newborn was baptised on 25th February 1756 at Barnack in Northamptonshire, the youngest child of Mary Newborn, formerly Rowell, and her husband Edward Newborn. When Mary was seventeen, her father died. It is not clear when her mother died.

On 2nd June 1783, aged 27, Mary married a John Welch at Barnack. They went on to have seven children together between 1784 and 1801. The first two children were baptised at Barnack, after which the family moved to the nearby village of Wittering where the other five children were baptised.

Mary died aged 63. She was buried at Wittering on 13th November 1819. John survived her by nearly twelve years.
