See more photos below [edit] Dessa Elizabeth Zimmermanwas born on 1 Sep 1906 at Jackson twp., Seneca Co., Ohio, United States. She appeared on the 1910 Federal Census of Liberty twp., Seneca Co., Ohio in the household of her parents Sterling Ethelbert Zimmerman and Emma Florence Zimmerman. She graduated in 1924 at Fostoria High school, Fostoria, Ohio, United States, from high school. Memory of sister, Ruth: "She was great on education. She took a six weeks term at college to be a teacher. At that time you could teach school with that six weeks. You would teach one year and then you had to go back to school the next summer again. Then you could teach another year and then go back to school. That is the way they go themselves worked out. Eventually she could have taught higher. She went through that, but after the six weeks she decided that was NOT what she wanted to do. Then she went to Toledo to a Business University down there. She went there maybe about 3 months. Back then they didn't go to college so long, then she could be a stenographer or a bookkeeper. She got a job at Devilbis, the made those things that spray perfume [atomizer] in the office. She made a remark one time that it was only the tall girls that got promoted in the office. She was with three other girls they shared expenses and lived together in an apartment. The tall ones were always the first and she hated being short.". As of 10 Nov 1927, her married name was Minch. On 10 Nov 1927 at the age of 21 Dessa Elizabeth Zimmerman married George Minch age 26, son of Jacob Minch and Mary Fischer. From Dessa's sister, Ruth: "Dessa and George had bought a house there in Toledo it was nice. Just a little one story, but a nice home. Had a wonderful basement all cement down there and he had a nice still worked out down there so that he made money on it. They still lost the house, but they didn't starve anyhow. They lost the house and had to move home with my folks.". From Dessa's sister Ruth: "I gave Dessa $5.00 one time, but I never remembered it. Then along years later, one time Dessa says said to me "you know I never forgot that $5.00 you gave me" I said, "I never gave you $5.00". "Yes you did". "Well where in the heck did I get it?" "I don't know but you gave me $5.00". They had a little boy maybe three or four years old he was crying for milk they could not even by him no milk and I had $5.00 someplace. I used to hang wallpaper even during the depression that's probably where I got it.". Dessa Elizabeth Minch and George Minch appeared on the 1930 Federal Census of Toledo, Adams twp., Lucas Co., Ohio, at 2276 Forrer Avenue, enumerated 8 Apr 1930, own their home worth $4,500 and one son at home, Robert. Her Social Security Number was 299-20-6012 issued before 1951 at Ohio, United States. She died on 27 Nov 2002 at Putnam Co., Ohio, United States, at age 96.
[edit] obituaryDessa Minch CONTINENTAL -- Funeral services for Dessa Elizabeth Minch, 96, of Continen tal, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Heitmeyer Funeral Home, Continent al, with Keith Minch officiating. Burial will be in Monroe Cemetery, Conti nental. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. unt il services Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Minch died at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2002 at her residence. She was born Sept. 1, 1906 in Seneca CO to Sterling and Emma (Ritter) Zimm erman. She married George Minch in 1927, and he died in 1985. Surviving are a son, Denis of Findlay; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandc hildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Ju ne) Kern, Fremont; and Ruth Brickner, Tiffin. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and three brothers, Duane, Da le and Beryl Zimmerman. Mrs. Minch was a homemaker. Memorials may be made to the Continental Library or Putnam CO Hospice.
