Third child, first son born to Daniel & Hannah Webster in 1758 at Sheffield, MA. According to a relative in 1900, "Daniel was married several times and had 13 or 14 children including 2 or 3 sets of twins." This cannot be proved or disproved. We do know that one wife was Martha Vaughn, sister of Ruth Vaughn who married Daniel's brother Stephen.

This Daniel served in the Reveloutionary War. He enlisted in Montreal, Canada, April 1776 as a private for 1 yr. in Cap.Lathrop Allen's Co., Samuel Elmore's Regt. of CT. troops. The Regt broke up in the Spring of 1777. They took the field under Gen.Schuyler, and in August marched from Albany into Tryon County. During the remainder of its term was stationed at Fort Stanwix. This company was in garrison at Ft.Dayton (German Flatts), also. In 1825, Daniel, age 67, applied for a pension and certified all the aforegoing info. He stated he was discharged in May 1777 at Herkimer, NY. He had household propery valued at $37.26. Says that there was no one living in his family except himself and his wife, she being 55 yrs old. He signed in a good clear hand. Two men from Columbia Co testified of his service from 1776 to 1777. He was pensioned at $8 per mo. This info taken from the pension files. He is listed in the DAR Patriot Index - Daniel b. Jan 10, 1758 d.1793 m.Martha Vaughan Pvt CT

Many land records are quoted showing that Daniel lived in Westmoreland, Herkimer Co in 1795 and bought property from Robert Parke of Paris, Herkimer Co. Witness was Asahel Webster, son of David Webster & Sussanah Bliss (his brother& sister-in-law).

1790 New York census has 2 Daniel Websters in Columbia county; one in Canaan & one in Hillsdale. The one in Canaan has more children ..that is prob the son.

Capt.John Vaughn, the father of Martha had a large family and lots of land. Many of the Land Records revolved around the Vaughn's and the Websters. By 1821 Daniel was married to Amanda, possibly his 3rd wife. His death record has not been found. Martha was not living in 1812 when her father's will was made. The legal proceeding involving his estate lasted til 1824 at least. The last wife of Daniel's who was living with him when he applied for the pension is not named & it is not known who his first wife was.
