McKenzie, M.R. 24-391 BIRTH: Will: 782 Box 1653 55,23 OCC: Worked at farming; then a fireman at Soldier's Home; then a Combustion Engineer for Public Service (studied a correspondence course.) Some confusion about birth year. Some records indicate it was 1887/88. OBIT: "Charles A. Fairchild, 85, died at 4:45 p.m. Thursday at Home Hospital, where he had been a patient since December 30. He leaves 105 descendants. "Mr. Fairchild, who formerly lived at 27 N. 25th Street, had made his home in recent months with a daughter, Mrs. Robert Pechin, 2310 Sequoya drive. "He was employed for many years as a combustion engineer for Public Service Indiana before retiring in 1949. "Mr. Fairchild was born in Pennfield, Ill., but lived most of his life in this community. In 1904 he was married to Blanche Harris, who died in 1960. He was a veteran of the Phillippines Insurrection, was a charter member of the VFW and a member of the Military Order of Cooties. "Survivng are six daughters, Mrs. Pechin, Mrs. Joseph Seman, Mrs. Patricia Carpenter, Mrs. Doris Ceglarski, and Mrs. Carl Isenbarger, city, and Mrs. Roland Deck of Chalmers, and two sons, Charles, Jr., city, and Weldon of Terre Haute. Also 32 grandchildren, 64 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild." (Lafayette Journal & Courier, Friday, January 12, 1968). |
