- John Cooley to James Cooley, 1805
- This Indenture Made the 2nd day of January AD 1805 between John Cooley Senior of the county of Stokes State of N. Carolina of the one part and James Cooley his son of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witness that the said John Cooley, Senior for and in consideration of the tender Love and affection which he hath and bequeath to his son the said James Cooley and for the further consideration of the sum of Five pounds to the said John Cooley in hand paid the Receipt whereof he doth hereby acknowledge hat Given, Granted, Sold & Delivered, and by these presents in open market and in due form of law give grant sell & deliver, alien Enfeoff, Release and forever confirm unto the said James Cooley his heirs and assigns atract or parcel of land lying and being in the county of Stokes Waters of Oldfield Creek, Beginning on a white Oak in said John Cooley's line thence North to Charles Davis's line to a stake thence West with Waggoners's line near to William James' old corner a post oak then South to a stake in John Cooley's line, thence East along the said line to the beginning. Containing ninety acres of land be the samemore or less. To have and to hold the said Bargained land and appurtenances unto the aid James Cooley his heirs and assigns Forever. And I the said John Cooley for my self my heirs doth by these presents Warrant and defend the aforesaid Bargained premises unto the said James Cooley his heirs and assigns Forever free & clear from all Mortgages, Jointures, Entails, dowers, and from all & every encumbrance whatsoever as a free Estate of inheritance, in fee simple forever. In Testimony Whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal, the date above written.

Boyd, Washington, D.C.; query letter in file 1923 from descendant Anne M. (Mrs. C.R.) Jeffords, Jamaica, New York, states soldier married Hannah & their daughter Elizabeth married Thomas Vestal

 - the query letter regarding Elizabeth Davis, wife of Thomas Vestal, being a daughter of this Charles Davis is unfounded. Elizabeth Davis was born in 1737, several years before Charles Davis. There appears to be no relationship with Charles Davis.

I believe the Samuel Davis of Townfork Settlement is Samuel Davis of Borden Tract, (see Samuel Davis Page).
