Revolutionary War Pension Information
Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 2, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Davis, Charles - born 2/18/1752 in Augusta County, Virginia; moved at age 12 to Surry County, North Carolina, where he entered service in 1776; received Pension in 1832 Stokes county, North Carolina; query letter in file 1908 from Dr. W.A. Boyd, Washington, D.C.; query letter in file 1923 from descendant Anne M. (Mrs. C.R.) Jeffords, Jamaica, New York, states soldier married Hannah & their daughter Elizabeth married Thomas Vestal , Surry County, North Carolina. F-S6785, R750.
- - the query letter regarding Elizabeth Davis, wife of Thomas Vestal, being a daughter of this Charles Davis is unfounded. Elizabeth Davis was born in 1737, several years before Charles Davis. There appears to be no relationship with Charles Davis.
Revolutionary War Service Pension Application
- http://revwarapps.org/s6785.pdf
Many of the witnesses/cosigners of Charles Davis' Revolutionary War pension application are in-laws (Ephriam Banner, Waggoner) of the Samuel Davis family of Townfork settlement, Surry, North Carolina. I thus have linked Charles Davis to Samuel Davis of Townfork Settlement, North Carolina.
I believe the Samuel Davis of Townfork Settlement is Samuel Davis of Borden Tract, (see Samuel Davis Page).
