Catherine Stauffer was born on 27 February 1845 in Mullhausen, Lorraine, France. The family was Mennonite and probably migrated from Switzerland to France before coming to America. They came from France in 1855. She died on 15 September 1915 in Tiskilwa Illinois. Her husband had died in 1885 leaving her with children ages 6 months through 18 years. The many descendants of Joseph and Catherine Stauffer Schertz held family reunions for almost 100 years. She and her husband are buried in Willow Springs Cemetery in Tiskilwa.
