Both Joseph and Catherine emigrated from France. Joseph came with his mother and Catherine came with both parents. The families were Mennonite and probably an earlier generation had emigrated from Switzerland to France. Joseph and Catherine raised their children in the Mennonite faith where they were members of Willow Springs Mennonite Church in Tiskilwa, Il. Most of their children or grandchildren followed other religions in adulthood.
