Homesteaded in Colorado. Then moved to Minnesota where he farmed.

1870 US census shows Levi age 3 living with parents in Wheatland Township Bureau County, IL.1880 US census gives middle initial. Family still lives on farm in Wheatland township Bureau County, IL. 1910 US census shows family living in Empire, Dakota, Minnesota family #226 page 15. 1929 US census shows family living in Dakota Co, MN. All children still at home. 1930 US census shows husband and wife at home with daughter Florence, married daughter Lucile Bartel and husband John Bartel age 26.

Levi and his wife are buried in Corinthian Cemetery in Empire Township, Dakota County, Minnesota.

His brother Joseph Schertz of Oak Park Illinois used to bring his son and several of the nephews to Minnesota to visit Levi and to go camping. He had a large touring car and everyone enjoyed the trip. This was told to me by a nephew of Joseph many decades later.
