He briefly homesteaded in Colorado with Levi Schertz. He returned to Tiskilwa, married his wife, went back to Colorado for awhile and then returned to farming in Tiskilwa. The 1910 US census shows the family living in Wheatland Township, Bureau County, Illinois on a farm. He is buried in Mount Bloom Cemetery in Tisiklwa.
