Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 219.--Andrew Hudlow and Mary ( ), of Frederick County, at a place called the Forest, between Jacob Sword's land and Fairfax's line; Michael Niece's line. Delivered: Jacob Moyle, August Court, 1774.
  • P-315: Andrew Hudlow of Dunmore County, 276 acres in said County. Surv. Peter Stephens, adjoining Jacob Holeman. 2 Jan. 1775. [Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1742-1775, Vol. 2, Gertrude E. Gray, pg. 228]. (Note: Dunmore County (later Shenandoah) was formed from Frederick County in 1772).

  • 25 April 1785 - Rockingham County, VA Minute books, 1778-1878, pg. 419; Last Will and Testament of Andrew Hudlow Decd. was produced in Court and proved by the Oaths of the subscribing witnesses and O: to be Recr'd; whereupon Jno Perkey and Henry Cook, ye Exrs therein named having complied with the Law, probate is granted them in due form. O: that Geo. Huston, Jno Snap, Jno Huston, Jno Pence, or any three of them being first sworn, do Appr'se ye Estate and Negroes if any, and make return of ye same to this Court.
