On 30 May 1775, Adam Barnes leased from Joseph Beasman 85 acres of Beasman's Discovery. On 8 Dec 1790, he purchased from John Beasman an adjacent tract called Hopewell, containing 144 acres. Hopewell was near the village of Gamber, Carroll County on Nicodemus Road.

Adam took the Oath of Fidelity in Baltimore County in 1778.

The 1783 Tax List of Delaware Upper Hundred, Baltimore County, shows Adam Barnes owning 144 acres Beasman's Discovery, with a household consisting of one free male, and six white inhabitants.

Although Adam Barnes was an Anglican in his younger days, he became a Methodist, and on 28 Nov 1808 he and a group of citizens of this vicinity were Methodist Vestrymen and purchased a tract of land for the erection of a church and public school.

The will of Adam Barnes... names the children listed below. Adam's estate was inventoried on 4 or 11 July 1809, and filed by Robert Barnes on 30 Sep 1809. The inventory came to $401.88, and was signed by Edmund Howard, Joshua Barnes and William Baseman.

Robert Barnes administered his father's estate on 6 April 1811, and again on 26 April 1815. After the second account, there was a balance due of $300.06.
