From Colonial Families of Anne Arundel County, Maryland


In 1850, Zachariah Barnes, age "60" was living with Thomas N. Hay(e)s in Warren Township, Belmont Co., OH (Bemont Co. dwelling 289, fam. 295). In 1860, Zachariah was listed as age 72, and was still living with Thomas N. Hayes. [I read Thomas' middle initial as "H" not "N".]

In the 1830 census, his numbers were 0-0-0-0-0-0-1-0-0-0-0-0-0-1-1-0-0-1-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0 There are other Barnes on the same page - they have not been identified


In 1830, there was a Moses Barnes in Belmont Co, Ohio. It could have been Zachariah's cousin, but I have not researched it. Of course, Barnes people named Elijah, Isaac, and Rachel lived in Barnesville along with Zachariah also.

Barnesville was named for another family, the progenitor of whom was David Barnes, who settled in Baltimore Co, Maryland after emigrating from England about 1758.
