From Colonial Families of Anne Arundel County, Maryland

On the death of his father, Adam Barnes, Robert was made executor of the estate, and the property was to remain in his hands until his youngest sister reached the age of 16. According to the Chancery Case that ensued, Robert continued to live on the homestead after his marriage until the property was sold in 1820.

In his will, he left a portion of the tract Hopewell to his son Adam, describing it as "the old home place." His wife Sarah was to have a tract called Kinfauns, which Robert had bought from John Smith, Sr., on 3 July 1837.
