Martha wrote that she was married 28, 1922 at 5:30 p.m. in South Bend, Indiana, by Elmer Ward Cole. Freeman Crook was a witness. The weather was "fair and warm." They moved into East Campan St., South Bend, on October 28, 1922.

"Harley Haines of South Bend, Ind., and Martha Crum of South Bend, Ind. were by me united in Marriage on the twenty-eighth day of October in the Year of our Lord, 1922, at South Bend, Indiana, Elmer Ward Able, Minister First Christian, South Bend, Ind. Witness Freeman Cook." Among Martha's papers was a church program from the First Christian Church, located at 316 South Main St., South Bend, Indiana. Elmer Ward Cole, D.D. [doctor of divinity], Minister, dated October 29, 1922, the day after Harley & Martha were married.
