Next step: Review your GEDCOM [31 December 2011]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded van der heide.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

van der heide.ged [31 December 2011]

Hello Tp, I took a look at your ‎van der heide.ged file that is in the queue. You will need to review each item on the Warnings tab, fix any errors on your home computer, and then resubmit your gedcom. Sometimes one error will generate multiple warnings. For example: Rykle van der Heide and Machtilda Duursma Groenewoud - Machtilda's birth year should be Abt 1782 instead of 1882. This one date typo caused about 9 errors to be generated in the Warning Tab (Wife was less than 12 years old when child was born).

If you have any questions at all, or if you would like additional assistance in Dutch, please leave a message on our Help:NLHelpdesk. Dank u wel, --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:26, 31 December 2011 (EST)

‎van der heide.ged [1 January 2012]

Hello Tp, I see that you have fixed the errors in your gedcom - thank you! You do have a lot of family matches :) When you are working on your Family Matches - sometimes you will have more accurate information than the page that is already on WR. For example if you have an exact birthdate and the existing page says Abt 1900. Another example is when the existing page has only a Y in the death date field. In these cases - please uncheck the box next to the data that you do not want to keep (such as the Abt birth date) and check the box next to the data you do want to keep. --Jennifer (JBS66) 14:56, 31 December 2011 (EST)

Thank you for the info i wil do so.--Tp 18:31, 31 December 2011 (EST)

I noticed an error with Sytske Algra and Gabe Kooistra. The genders are switched, Sytske is listed as a male and Gabe is listed as a female. You only need to fix this on your home computer, I will fix this family on WeRelate after your gedcom is uploaded. There was also one birthdate error - Jelle Johannes Fennema b 28 SEP 1835 d 7 APR 1915. The birth date is for a different Jelle Fennema. Jelle Johannes Fennema was born 9 Dec 1841. I fixed this already on WeRelate.

There are a few edits that will need to be made to names during gedcom review. Name prefixes such as "van der" need to be placed in the Surname field, not the Given name. If you look at the People Tab and scroll down to Heide, for each person that has "van der" in the given name field - those need to be moved to the Surname field (ie: van der Heide). You can edit a page in gedcom review by clicking on the Edit link. Lastly, names with alternate spellings like Akkerman(s) need to be edited as well. The primary spelling can be placed on the first line, and alternate spellings can be added by clicking on the "Add alternate name" link.

As Klaas mentioned, I did fix Hallum, Ede, Amsterdam, and Bergum in your gedcom review. Since your file did not have the country Netherlands listed - the software tries to "guess" which place you meant. Sometimes it guesses incorrectly. You will want to review each place on the Places tab to make sure that it matched to the correct location. Place pages on WeRelate are titled in the format: Town, Gemeente, Provincie, Netherlands. When you are all done with these reviews, you can go to the Import tab and press the "Ready to import" button. If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask! --Jennifer (JBS66) 09:58, 1 January 2012 (EST)

van der heide.ged #2 [1 January 2012]

Hi Tp, I see that you deleted your gedcom and re-imported it. Unfortunately, that means all of the family matches you worked on will need to be redone. The data that you added with those family matches has already been added to WeRelate though. It would be helpful if we could converse before you proceed further with this gedcom. Are you on Google+ by any chance? Then, we could do a video chat (perhaps with Klaas as well, who speaks Dutch). Then we can better explain the process to you. --Jennifer (JBS66) 13:59, 1 January 2012 (EST)

Re:problems [1 January 2012]

Hi Tjisse, I just read your note on my user page. I'll respond here just to make sure that you receive my reply. Some warnings are generated for events that really did happen. For example, I recall one of your families had two children born 2 days apart. I checked the geboorteakten, and those are indeed the recorded birth dates. The warning will not go away, and the people do not need to be excluded from your file. Essentially, those valid warnings can be ignored.

I do think it would be helpful if Klaas and I could communicate with you verbally, then we can talk you through the process step-by-step. Klaas and I are both on Google+. My account is here: https://plus.google.com/u/0/105122967829747334807. I suggested Google+ because it provides a free video chat service. I am 6 hours behind you, and won't be back online until about 12:00 noon your time on Monday. If Google+ doesn't work, we could try Skype, email, or post like this back and forth. Regardless, we'll find a way to communicate tomorrow :) Regards, --Jennifer (JBS66) 19:17, 1 January 2012 (EST)

Pages with unknown husband [3 January 2012]

Tjisse, here are the three families that I spoke about yesterday that may be missing the husband.

If you would like to add a husband to these families: From the Family page, click on Edit, then click on Add a page for husband. After you have finished and saved the family page, there will be a link at the top of the page that says "this page can be renamed". Click that link, and your page will be renamed to include both husband and wife. If you have any questions, just let me know. --Jennifer (JBS66) 11:29, 3 January 2012 (EST)

Beerstra Bouma.ged [7 January 2012]

Tjisse, before process the family matches on your Beerstra Bouma.ged, I have a couple of questions for you:

  1. When you imported the file, did you notice the new "Default country" box? Yours would be the first gedcom since WeRelate added this new feature. Can you tell me if you chose "Netherlands"?
  2. This file has a lot of pages with the surname "Niet publiek". Is this something that Aldfaer does when supressing living people in a gedcom, or did you add them like that yourself? --Jennifer (JBS66) 15:46, 7 January 2012 (EST)

Hi Jennifer 1 Yes i did notice the country box and choose the Netherlands

2 The persons "niet publiek" where created by aldfaer, has something to do with a privacy adjustment i wil remove this file and re upload it with different privacy settings.

Tjisse--Tp 16:14, 7 January 2012 (EST)

You should not have to omit the living people using Aldfaer. WeRelate's software will automatically exclude people born in the last 110 years that have no death date. --Jennifer (JBS66) 16:21, 7 January 2012 (EST)

That looks better now without the "niet publiek" :) Next, what you'll want to do is review the Warnings tab. There are 3 levels of "warnings":

  • alert
  • warning
  • error

For many Dutch gedcoms, the alerts don't apply. Things like "same surname" are pretty common to see. As long as the data is accurate, this is ok. What you will need to focus on are the warnings and errors. Upon quick glance, here are a few that I see are causing messages:

  • Wietze van der Kooistra and Trientje Zwartenkot: Wietze van der Kooi married Trientje. Wietze was born 1 Sep 1876 in Grootegast (not 1894).
  • Wijtze Draisma and Minke Hulshof. Minke was born 6 Sep 1855 (not 1868).
  • Hendrik Derks Huizinga - there are duplicates in the file, one born 13 OCT 1845 and the other born 16 OCT 1845 (correct date is 13 Oct).
  • Trijntje Sytzes Oosterhaven born 29 Sep 1853 (not 30 SEP 1850).

You can go through each warning and error and fix them in your home computer. Then, you can reupload the file. This may seem time consuming, but it is a helpful process to fine-tune the data.

When that is done, and you have reuploaded your gedcom, then I think it would be helpful to have a Google+ hangout (but not tonight, it's already too late over there :-). I'd like to explain to you the steps of Place matching and Family Matching better. --Jennifer (JBS66) 17:18, 7 January 2012 (EST)

Hi Tjisse, I am reviewing your peterson.ged file. I noticed there are Family Matches that have not been "Updated". This means that some of your data will not be imported. I returned your file to User Review so you can take a look at these families. When you are done, just return the file to Admin Review so that I can import it. Bedankt! --Jennifer (JBS66) 09:41, 19 May 2012 (EDT)

Tjisse--Tp 10:44, 1 August 2012 (EDT)

[I added links. It looks like the sources agree the death dates for the husband and wife should not match. I could order the death certificates from the Kent County Clerk; that would give a definitive answer. (My family has Bergsmas and de Jongs, which is why I'm interested.) --Pkeegstra 10:39, 1 August 2012 (EDT)]

I have received the death certificates for both Sjoerd Bergsma (11 Sep 1935) and Baukje de Jong (31 Jan 1937) and transcribed them here and here. (I am not posting death certificates created upon my request at the present time because of copyright reasons.)

Since these are your people, I would be happy to send the original hardcopy certificates to one of you if you send me our postal mail address via email.

Next step: Review your GEDCOM [10 December 2012]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded stielstra.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate.

‎de vries.ged [2 February 2013]

Hi Tjisse,

When I looked at your GEDCOM this morning, I saw 0.9% errors which is fine. It looks like you fixed the one true error (death after burial). If you finish processing the Family Matches - you should be able press the Ready to Import button. If you have any more problems with the import, just let me know. --Jennifer (JBS66) 11:22, 2 February 2013 (EST)

Iam not be able to import the gedcom the warning level is 3.9, i do not know what is wrong.--Tp 11:37, 2 February 2013 (EST)

That is odd. If you would like, I can finish processing the Family Matches and import the GEDCOM for you. I can't do it right now, but I can in a couple of hours. --Jennifer (JBS66) 11:47, 2 February 2013 (EST)
I have one other thought - have you tried closing your "browser" (Chrome, Firefox) and opening the GEDCOM file again from a different browser window? --Jennifer (JBS66) 11:49, 2 February 2013 (EST)

Jennifer

Tried it with another browser warning level decreased to 0,9 but still can not import gedcom. if you can find the time for it you might give it a go.

Hallo K Drost

geboorteplaats Westergeest [15 March 2021]

Hallo Tp

When I read the original Dutch "geboorte aktes" of Grietje, Wiegerke, Durk Beerstra, I clearly read the name "Westergeest", being the place of birth and not Veenklooster. Have you got different original birth certificates? If so, can you please send a copy, thanks. Kind regards --Beatrijs 16:51, 13 March 2021 (UTC)
