Hiltje De Jong [3 March 2011]

I noticed that you created a few pages that I have questions about: Family:Albert Slagter and Hiltje de Jong (1) and Person:Hiltje De Jong (15). Was Hiltje meant to be included as a wife on that Family page? Also, I can't seem to find Hiltje born on that date in Vrouwenparochie. Right now these pages are "orphans" because they don't connect to another page - I can help piece things together or delete the pages if they are not longer needed. Dank u wel! (volunteer admin) --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:53, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Hiltje De Jong (Hildred DeYoung) was first married to Albert Slager: Nov. 10, 1912 On June 08, 1920 she married William Snip. I don't know if Albert died or if the were divorced.

Albert Slager was the younger brother of Antje (Annie) Slager, Williams Mother.

Williams older brother Pieter (Peter) Snip was married to Hiltjes older sister Maaike De Jong (Maggie)DeYoung. October 10, 1912 in Grand Rappids, Kent MI

I am new on this site but I will add more information s.a.p.--Paulsnip 10:37, 2 March 2011 (EST)

i am not sure that Hiltje was born in Vrouwenparochie, her paretss were from there, and she emigrated April 18, 1904, from Het Bildt, Netherlands to the USA. Perhaps we can leave the birthplace open.--Paulsnip 10:59, 2 March 2011 (EST)

Let me add in a few details with sources and see if I can sort this out :-) I am also going to rename this page: Family:William Snip and Hiltje de Jong (DeYoung) (1) to remove the alternate name from the title. Then I'll come back here and add a few comments on the above information.

I know that WR can be a challenge to work with at first. If you have any questions at all, feel free ask me or post a note on our Dutch forum. --Jennifer (JBS66) 11:30, 2 March 2011 (EST)

I fixed a few items: I created a page for Family:Folkert De Jong and Maaike Keizer (1) and added both Hiltje and Maaike as children. I correct Hiltje's birth date (Maaike's was previously on the page). It appears Hiltje was born in Sint Jacobiparochie, so I added that to her page as well.

Questions:

  1. Is Hiltje's death date of April 1977 correct, considering all of the moving around I did?
  2. Something appears incorrect about this page: Family:Albert Slagter and Hiltje de Jong (1). If Hiltje married Albert in 1912, she would have been only 14 years old. Also, there would have been a 23 year age difference between them. --Jennifer (JBS66) 12:24, 2 March 2011 (EST)

On this genealogy website i was informed that hilda deyoung died on July 13, 1992 in Sparta, MI

According to Michigan Deaths, 1971-1996 database at Ancestry.com:

  • Name: Maggie Snip Birth Date: 6 Mar 1993 Death Date: 25 Apr 1977 Gender: Female Residence: Michigan Place of Death: Wright, Ottawa, Michigan
  • Name: Hilda Slachter Birth Date: 8 Nov 1898 Death Date: 13 Jul 1992 Gender: Female Residence: Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan Place of Death: Kalamazoo, Kalamazoo, Michigan

It is curious to me why Hilda died with the Slachter surname. So, it seems that the death date that is on Hilje's page belongs on Maaike's. --Jennifer (JBS66) 17:20, 3 March 2011 (EST)

Pieter Snip and Grietje Dopsema [5 March 2011]

I wanted to explain to you the edits I made this morning. You had a page for Pieter Snip and Pietje Hoekstra that looked like this. There is supposed to be a separate page for each family, so I created this one for you: Family:Pieter Snip and Grietje Dopsema (1) (you will need to Watch this page by pressing the Watch link on the left side of that page). I also moved Ebeltje over to this family. Let me know if you have any questions. --Jennifer (JBS66) 07:40, 5 March 2011 (EST)

Image titles [6 March 2011]

Hello, I noticed that you are uploading images with titles such as Wytze.jpg or Anna.jpg. The page titles for images need to be unique, so it would be helpful if you could add additional information to the title (such as the year and type of certificate). Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, --Jennifer (JBS66) 14:43, 6 March 2011 (EST)

Living people [16 March 2011]

Hi, I noticed that you are creating pages for people who are likely still living. I wanted to let you know that WeRelate does not allow the creation of pages for living people due to privacy concerns. Thank you, --Jennifer (JBS66) 19:08, 16 March 2011 (EDT)

Find a Grave images [10 May 2011]

Hi Paul. I noticed that you have added photos from Find A Grave. Unfortunately, photos from Find A Grave are not public domain - which means they can't be legally used on WeRelate. Unless there is clear indication on the image page that you either took the photograph or have permission from the copyright owner to use it on WeRelate (including agreeing to WeRelate's licensing), it will need to be deleted. Please see our policy here.

The best way to include those types of images is to link to the memorial page. For example, on the page for Terry Gardner, you could enter this in the text area: Photo of Terry's gravestone on [http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=41942972 FindAGrave.com]. The link would look like this:

Photo of Terry's tombstone on FindAGrave.com

Please let me know if you have any questions. --Jennifer (JBS66) 09:29, 7 May 2011 (EDT)

I noticed that you removed the Find-a-Grave images from their Person/Family pages. To delete the images, you can click on More>Delete from the left menu on the image page. Let me know if you need any help with this. --Jennifer (JBS66) 17:39, 10 May 2011 (EDT)

Renaming person pages [14 mei 2011]

Hello Paul, when you rename person pages such as Person:Gaele Couperus (1), you also need to rename the Family page if they were married. So, in this case, Family:Gale Couperus and Hindrikje Snip (1) would also need to be renamed. --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:54, 14 May 2011 (EDT)

Thank you.--Paulsnip 07:09, 14 May 2011 (EDT)

Genlias links [10 jun 2011]

Hi Paul, I notice you are adding genlias links to a few pages. If you add the URL directly from genlias, the links will fail to work (like http://www.genlias.nl/nl/searchDetail.jsp?val=4&xtr=21413901&vgr=3). A little trick is to change the val=# to val=0 and the links will then work (like http://www.genlias.nl/nl/searchDetail.jsp?val=0&xtr=21413901). --Jennifer (JBS66) 07:51, 10 June 2011 (EDT)

Ok thanks Paul

Living people [25 September 2011]

Hi Paul, I noticed that you have created pages for people who are likely still living (for example: this family). WeRelate's policy does not allow the creation of pages for living people due to privacy concerns. Please delete your pages for living people by clicking on More>Delete from the menu on the left. You may use templates such as Template:Pedigree3 to connect family lines using a chart on your User page. You may also connect non-living family pages using internal links in the text box. --Jennifer (JBS66) 08:36, 25 September 2011 (EDT)

Hessel Gerrits & Antje Rinses [9 November 2011]

Thank you so much for posting that link http://karelvdb.home.xs4all.nl/keegstra2.htm on JBS66's talk page! I was going to ask if my Kornelis Renzes Keegstra (1838) was related to that line, but I found page one and I see he's right there. Kornelis Renzes Keegstra is my great-great-grandfather. The reason his whole family disappears is that they all went to Grand Rapids, MI. BTW, he had a daughter live to adulthood too, Americanized name Alice Keegstra Bos(b about 1875). [GENLIAS provides her birth name, Altje Keegstra (29-Aug-1875).]

Hi Paul, I noticed that when you left your message on the talk page earlier, you signed your message [[Paulsnip]]. This actually creates a link to a non-existent page. To attach your signature to posts, you can click on the icon that is second from the right at the top of every edit screen. It looks like this: Image:Ondertekenknop.png. Hi Paul, it seems that you sent a message to WeRelate's "donotreply" email account with a message about a Find A Grave link for Melvin Merritt. creating a link [19 February 2013]

Hi Paul I see on the page of Bauke van Sluis (see your revision of 18.2.13) that you created a link to the exact akte in www.allefriezen.nl Since I am working all the time with this website because of the original scans, I would like to know how you created this link exactly. Do I need a special program? I work with windows XP. Thanks Paul, kind regards, Beatrijs--Beatrijs 16:02, 18 February 2013 (EST)

Hi Beatrijs

It is not a special program. Just copy and past of the right url and put that between two hooks an add a name: Alle Friezen.

See underneath:

Hello,

I am a close relative of this gentleman.

1) This is not his correct name.

2) He celebrated his 100th birthday last year and is still alive.

For these reasons I am going to Rename his page back to Unknown DeWind.

I trust you will understand.

Grant, Michigan [4 July 2013]

FYI, the agricultural town of Grant with the large population of Netherlands-Americans is the one located at the south end of Newaygo County. Since the obituary references the Grant CRC, we can be quite sure that is the intended Grant. Carrots grown in Grant are marketed all over the USA under the Bolthouse Farms brand and others. --Pkeegstra 09:07, 4 July 2013 (EDT)

Sophia Potgieter [28 April 2014]

I see I misread my source for Sophia Potgieter. The source is quite clear that both Jacoba and Sophia were born in Lynden, Whatcom County. I'm not sure of the backstory; that was a long trip back then about 1900 to have moved both there and back within ten years. --pkeegstra 10:37, 28 April 2014 (UTC)

Singleton, Funk, Milliron, [16 May 2014]

Hello Paul, Guess I will go with the flow and not protest what other people see on other web sites. These are my Great Grandparents, Grandparents, and Parents. I have seen info that is not correct, so It can just stay where it is. Nice talking to you.--Pattylee 16:05, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Milliron [16 May 2014]

Indeed, address and phone# are correct, birthday is Sept. 25, 1915. This was done on the Mormon web site. Dad's Sister Grace Wian and Uncle Bill were both Mormon and did most if not all of the genealogy for the Milliron family. So your guess is as good as mine, lol, good week-end to you. I must have spent 3 hours this AM looking all sorts of stuff up, to the point of becoming cross-eyed.--Pattylee 20:42, 16 May 2014 (UTC)

Graafschap and Fillmore [23 March 2015]

Paul,

Re Risje Breen, Graafschap is in Fillmore Township, Allegan County (to be precise, it's on the line between Fillmore and Laketown Townships), so if both names are used for the same event, that is probably the explanation. Graafscap was an unincorporated community, so the legal jurisdiction is the township. --pkeegstra 11:04, 23 March 2015 (UTC)

Mary Shangle - mother Catreen Spangenberg [3 mei 2015]

Greetings fellow Shangle researcher!

Just in the last year, I have "broken through the brick wall" of my Young-Shangle ancestors.

It appears that you have done considerable research in this area. I would be happy to collaborate. Must admit, I am not entirely comfortable with the many connections on-line of "Catreen Spangenberg" being born c1747. This would suggest that her first children would have been born around 1767-1770. Yet there seem to be no records of these earlier births - most children are of the next generation: birth around 1790 or later. There may well be link that is yet to be discovered.

Just discovered this WeRelate website - and you. Still struggling to understand the "source citation requirements.--ForeverYoung 23:17, 1 May 2015 (UTC)

Hello Foreveryoung

I am ivestigating the Shangle family because Johannes Snip married a Rebecca Shangle in 1923. I was interrested in her ancesters en found several information in familyschearch and on a site witch wasnt updated anymore. The owner did not react on any mail. So I decided tot put his information on werelate although I was not sure about the Quality.

About Cattreen Spangenberg, there is not mutch te find about her, but I think the is the same as Catharine Sporangenberg. When she was born en when she died is unknown to me.

I put all my information on werelate and hope someone will add something. (Or help anyone) So we can open the past.

Third Oakwood Cemetery [9 July 2015]

Oops, that means there is a third cemetery in Kent County named Oakwood (besides the ones in city of Lowell and city of Grand Rapids). I'll create it tomorrow morning and connect Egbertje's page and Jurjen's page to the correct cemetery. Thanks for catching this! --pkeegstra 21:44, 8 July 2015 (UTC)

OK, I determined there are actually only two cemeteries named Oakwood; the one which had a WR page in Grand Rapids is actually the one in Plainfield Township. So I renamed it, and fixed the link for Egbertje and Jurjen. The city of Grand Rapids has an Oak Grove Cemetery and the historic Oakhill Cemetery, but not an Oakwood Cemetery. --pkeegstra 11:12, 9 July 2015 (UTC)

Pierius Terpstra [27 aug 2016]

Hello, my name is Diane Terpstra Quale, and I am a great-great granddaughter of Pierius Johannes Terpstra. I live in Janesville, Wisconsin, USA. My grandfather was Johannes Terpstra and I never knew him as he died when I was 3. My father, Peter, died in 1993 and I don't think he knew very much about his ancestry, he would have been very interested in all that I've found since 2009 when I started. I knew of 2 siblings, Cornelis and Tina de Roos, so when I found 6 more siblings on allefriezen.nl I was amazed. I would be very happy with a response from you and to find out if we are related. I have some letters written by the de Roos cousins to my Aunt in the 1920's. I was excited to see Jentske Terpstra on your tree, I had not been able to find her after her arrival in the U.S.

Thank you for any response, Diane--Diane Terpstra 18:17, 26 August 2016 (UTC)

Hello Diana

I am happy my information on werelate was usefull to you, but we are not directly related. You can find the link between our familys, though a brother (Cornelius) of Joost/Joe Verdoorn, the second husband of Jennie Terpstra. Cornelius was maried to Grace Zijlstra. A sister of Grace, Gertruide was maried to a relative of me, Willem/William Snip. I am always interested in Dutch emmigrants in the USA, and trying to find ancesters of them in the Netherlands, thats why I found the information on Jennie Terpstra. All information I find a post in werelate.

If you need some information in the Netherlands (where I live) I am always willing to help you.

This is a link to my family tree. Stamboom Snip (still in Dutch)

Van Tuinens [4 September 2018]

Hello, Paul,

I hope you don’t mind that I made some corrections to your entries regarding the daughters of Tjipke Van Tuinen and Akke Poelstra. Their daughter, Elizabeth, was my husband’s great aunt; their daughter, Pierkje (“Nellie”) was his grandmother. The two youngest daughters, Fokeltje and Dirkje both died, along with their mother, shortly after they emigrated to the United States. I have found a church record that marks all three, Akke, Fokeltje, and Dirkje as “overleden”, but only has a date next to Akke’s name.--CEF93 00:00, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Carol Faber

No problem at all. I myself am (far away) related to Geeske Smitter, Tjipkes secund wife.

Regards Paul Snip--paulsnip 12:31, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

I’m so glad you are related to Tjipke’s third wife, because she was the one we hadn’t found yet in our own research. An interesting side story, to us anyway, is that Tjipke’s daughter, Pierkje (who everyone called “Nellie”) married the son of his fourth wife, Dijdje Meinardi! Derk Vander Vennen and Nellie are my husband’s grandparents. So Dijdje is both his great grandmother and his step-great grandmother!--CEF93 14:13, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

Pages for living people [21 November 2021]

As you know, WeRelate doesn't allow pages for living persons. We are enforcing this more rigorously. The pages below are all for people born in the last 110 years for which there is no death date. If you have or can find a death date, please enter it (with the source, even if it is just information from a relative). The pages without a death date will be deleted in about a month.
