OurLinks.GED appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [12 January 2009]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Go to the Family Tree page, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in that tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler later this Fall.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

Hi,

After we fixed the problem on our end and uploaded your tree, we forgot to remove the pages that had been created from the initial failed upload, so you had a bunch of duplicate pages in your tree. I was about to delete the tree and start over, but it looks like you may have already done this. Anyway, if you would like me to re-upload the gedcom that failed initially, it's working now and can be uploaded at any time. Just reply to this message and let me know. Thanks.--Dallan 20:44, 16 January 2009 (EST)

Ruffenach line [26 March 2010]

Hi Jeffrey--Thanks for putting your family information online. I'm wondering how some Ruffenachs ended up in Australia, although I've run across some in Venezuela, so I shouldn't be surprised. I'd like to know how and when the Ruffenachs came to Dabo from Switzerland. My line from Antoine down goes like this--Jean Ruffenach (1780-1837)--Florint (1818-1882)--Blaise (1859-1951)(He's the one who emigrated to the US)--Peter (1893-1987)--Peter Jr. (1918-2004)--Rosemary (me). Prior to Antoine are 2 Samuels: one is (1656-1738). Apparently, there was another Samuel (born 1620?) before him, according to a Christian Ruffenach who has a website. I would like to contact distant relatives in the Dabo area, since I will be traveling in Europe this summer. Do you have any contacts? I am also interested in finding an English translation of Jospeh Dillenschneider's booklet "Dabo: Joyau des Basses-Vosges." It is now out of print, but I do have a copy in French. Thanks for any help you can provide.

RE Annie Potterton & Thomas Borrill [9 August 2010]

Hi Jeff - I think we have communicated before but I just found your listings here and they raised a couple questions about your research....

Annie Potterton married Thomas Burrill (sp) in 1968 and they appear together on the 1871 Census at 68 Tower Street in Harrogate with son Arthur born December Quarter 1870. Herbert Potterton was not born until March Quarter 1872.

So how could the same Thomas Borrill have married Sarah Walker in Lincolshire in September Quarter of 1870??? DO you know for a fact that Alice A Borrill's mother was a Walker??

The dates just do not seem to mesh with the births and the census........

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Your recent gedcom [11 October 2011]

Hi,

In reviewing your gedcom it looks like there is one error that needs to be corrected or explained so that others will be able to understand the situation and possibly correct it later. Please go to the "warnings" tab and click on the family where the mother is 4 years old when the daughter is born. You could either correct or remove the mother's birthdate, or correct or remove the child's birthdate, or if the child was adopted you could mention that. Once you've done this, please re-mark the gedcom "Ready to import" and I'll import it. Thanks.--Dallan 14:55, 11 October 2011 (EDT)

Frawley/Barnes family tree [31 December 2011]

Dear Jeffrey

I hope you don't mind me contacting you. I recently came across your family tree on this website.

I understand from my second Kerin Wandstall that we are related to you through Sarah Brookman.

I am a descendent of Sarah Brookman (through my grandmother Ellen Veronica Barnes nee Frawley (daughter of John Frawley and Catherine Roney) and have found quite a bit of information on your site that I didn't know including my great grandfather Albert Henry Barnes was divorced and remarried - quite unusual in 1899! I would love to know why if you happen to have any information.

My mother is Jean Veronica Lynch nee Barnes, eldest child of Albert Edward Barnes and Ellen Veronica Frawley.

Thank you for making all this info available on the internet. It is really helpful, particularly as I am just getting started in the family history world.

Kind regards Therese Catherine Lynch--Tessacate 09:13, 31 December 2011 (EST)

Alsace-Lorraine? [6 March 2013]

Hello, Jeffrey.

I noticed that the website glitch you were asking about had to do with a family from Alsace-Lorraine. I know absolutely nothing about genealogy resources for Alsace-Lorraine, but supposedly one of my girlfriend's ancestral families is from there. (Speculative, so I just wrote France on the page.) Are there any hints you can give me?

Thanks! --Pkeegstra 05:37, 6 March 2013 (EST)

Featured Page Nominations [9 March 2013]

Hi Jeffrey, I understand that you would like to assist in identifying and nominating the WeRelate Featured Pages. I'd certainly appreciate any help you're willing to give. I've added your User Name to the WeRelate: Selecting Featured Page Committee List, so whenever you find WeRelate Person Pages, Article (or Special Project Pages) or Place Pages that are worthy, please add them to the nomination page and I'll put them in the rotation. I've been switching them out every 2 weeks, so if you could keep adding a couple of the best examples each month, that would be great. Keep in mind that we're looking for those WeRelate pages that are "the best of the best" in terms of use of multiple sources (especiallyprimary sources), narrative and also use of maps or other things that add value to their page.

Thanks and best regards,

Jim:)--Delijim 20:18, 8 March 2013 (EST)

Utilisateur francophone [6 May 2013]

Bonjour ! Amicalement - Marc ROUSSEL - --Markus3 05:26, 2 May 2013 (EDT)

Bonjour Marc,

Cordialement Jeffrey--JeffreyRLehrer 00:35, 3 May 2013 (EDT)

Amicalement - Marc ROUSSEL - --Markus3 02:23, 3 May 2013 (EDT)

Salut Marc,

Please, write also in english ! GoogleTranslator is very stupid ! Amicalement - Marc ROUSSEL - --Markus3 05:37, 3 May 2013 (EDT)

The important part was,

Roelof Mooy [13 August 2013]

I saw a few Dutch names on your pedigree chart and became curious :) Your Person:Roelof Mooy (1) is the same as Person:Roelof Mooij (1). I pieced together his ancestry from Dutch records online. User:Ekjansen was very helpful in finding the Bevolkingsregister (population register) that confirms this family left the Netherlands for Sydney Australia about 26 Dec 1857. --Jennifer (JBS66) 12:24, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

Thanks Jennifer, I will have to merge these and I will copy your comment over to the relevant talk page. The question is how to represent the surname as the family was and is still Mooy in Australia. I think maybe the children are Mooy with alternative name Mooij and the parents the other way.--JeffreyRLehrer 14:03, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

What we've been doing for the Dutch immigrants themselves is to put their birth name spelling as primary and list their immigrant name as an alt name. In the case of Person:Roelof Mooij (1) - Roelof Mooij would be primary and Roelof Mooy added as an alt immigrant name. His child Frederick Mooy is ok, since that was his birth name in their new country. We don't list the new name (Mooy) as alt names for previous generations in NL. You could create Surname pages for Mooy and Mooij if you wanted to with each variation listed (this helps with searching name variants). --Jennifer (JBS66) 16:00, 13 August 2013 (EDT)

Redgate2.ged [18 August 2013]

Thank you for submitting your gedcom file. I am afraid that there is a problem. WeRelate is based on a shared database and creates a web page for each person. In your file, most of the people don't have events containing dates and places which would enable someone to identify the person. We will not be able to use this file as it is. However, we do encourage you to work on your data. You will need to add at least one date and place (enter the place name as "Jurisdiction, Country") for most of the people in your file. Where such dates are not available you may use an estimated date, i.e. "abt 1830". We also strongly encourage the use of sources. And, finally, as a reminder, we do not create pages for living people. If you have any questions about your gedcom, you can reply here.--Khaentlahn 09:39, 18 August 2013 (EDT)

Bon jour Markus

For a lot of information on the second level families of my direct ancestors I have been using a combination of geneanet family trees and source documents. This profile was only from geneanet.

I have noticed all your work on place names so I have been correcting some as I go. I notice that my incorrect ones relate to profiles which were uploaded via gedcom early in my use of werelate.

I hope you are well.

Bon jour Markus

Thanks for the article on WikiTree [9 December 2013]

I appreciated your article presenting a comparison of WeRelate and WikiTree and how you use both of them. I have taken a look at WikiTree in the past because, as the "keeper" of the family tree of the descendants of my paternal grandparents (over 400 individuals), I am very interested in the privacy controls (privacy is a big concern for me). However, the clutter on the profile page in WikiTree makes my skin crawl, and I keep running back to the clean and highly usable interface of WeRelate, knowing that I can only post my grandparents (deceased in the 1960's) and their ancestors.

To date, I have been sharing printed copies of the family tree at family reunions every few years, where people hand-write their updates and corrections (I also receive updates by email), but I would prefer to be able to share it online, and particularly to allow others to add to it and make corrections online. I figured that some day I would "bite the bullet" and start using WikiTree for this. Your article encourages me to follow your lead and use both sites together, with links from WikiTree to WeRelate. In fact, if you would add a link to an example of a WikiTree page you have linked to WeRelate, I would likely follow the same template.

Thanks again for sharing your insight.--DataAnalyst 00:16, 9 December 2013 (UTC)

Hello-I am the great, great, great granddaughter of Isabella and John Henderson. I follow the line of Janet, sister to your line of Erasmus Henderson. I was so interested in your wonderful site, it is quite remarkable. I am desperately trying to trace further back in time to the parents of both John and Isabella and I am wondering if you could give me any information. I know that Isabella's father was John Campbell and you list her mother as Ann Thomson but I can't find this information anywhere- can I ask how you arrived at this? I also know that in 1842 the Campbells were living in Redcastle in Scotland but that is as far as I can go. As for John Henderson I have drawn blanks on all sides, I can't even find his birth record. Thank you. Best Wishes.Marilyn Hooper--Marilyn Hooper 07:50, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

Evelyn Margaret French [29 July 2018]

Hi Jeffrey,

First a thanks for the information and work you are doing. As you undoubtedly are aware, it's a tremendous help and can make life so much easier when others share the task!

So, on that point I noticed that for the above lady, you have her married name is Spooner. My research suggests - but as a note of caution I have to concede that I have only explored the database and not looked at a copy of the original certificate - but I haven't seen anything to suggest she married a man called Spooner. I can see - according to the NSW Registry of births, deaths and marriages - that an Evelyn Margaret French married in 1959 to Karl Lechner. I presume that this man will be a relative of yours?

If I am mistaken then I would be grateful for any correction you can offer, especially with supporting information. The detail I have also shows that Evelyn Lechner was buried in Woronora Cemetery in 2007, the same cemetery as her mother.

If you have any further information on this line I would also welcome it and similarly if you have any interest in the Standley side of the family that remained in London please let me know and if I can help, I will be pleased to do so.

Best wishes

Mary Lumley [1 January 2021]

Good afternoon I’ve come across your family trees on another site. You posted the marriage of Samuel Borrill to Mary Lumley (born 1853).

Mary Lumley was the daughter of my gg-grandmother, Sarah Lumley. She was the sister of my g-grandfather, Matthew Lumley.

Sarah Lumley was the daughter of William Lumley, her mother was Mary. Born in Ripon in 1832, passed in Union Workouse in Harrogate, or Knaresborough, aged 33. She married John Longstrip in 1859, he passed the same year but I don’t know if he was the father of her 3 children - there was another daughter, Margaret, the youngest - Mary was the eldest, Matthew in the middle.

On the 1861 census Mary was 8, Matthew was 6 and Margaret was 4. I don’t know if they were in the workhouse with their mother when she passed in 1865 but they were in the workhouse in Knaresborough on the 1861 census.

Hope that is all of interest to you! Kind regards Jan--Jaysfee 14:05, 1 January 2021 (UTC)

Your WELSH ancestors [6 July 2023]

Dear Jeffrey

I am a descendant of the Hendersons/Williams of Pembrokeshire, who you are also related to. I don't know if you have much knowledge of that side of the family. It is on my maternal line and your grandmother's maternal line.

The strange thing is that my mother also met and married a Free French Sailor when his ship was hit by a mine during D Day and it docked in Milford Haven, Wales for repairs.

It would be great to give you any information that you are missing on that branch of the tree (Welsh ancestors).

I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards Jacqui--PembsAnc18! 09:52, 6 July 2023 (UTC)
