Disambiguation

CAUTION! There is another Stephen Senter (b. abt. 1724, d. aft. 1804) that migrated from Virginia to North Carolina around the same time period (the mid to late 1700's), whose family also migrated to Tennessee. This other Stephen Senter was the father of Henry Senter (b. 1760, d. 1832, Greene County, TN) and William Senter (b. bef. 1761), among others. The other Stephen Senter is often refered to as "Stephen Senter of Dobbs and Cumberland County, North Carolina", and should not be confused with this Stephen Senter, referred to as "Stephen Senter of Bedford, Pittsylvania & Henry Counties, Virginia", to distinguish between the two. Some internet genealogies have accidentally confused or combined the two. There is no apparent relationship between the two Stephen Senters, according to most researchers.

Some researchers claim that this Stephen Senter died 1799 in Grainger County, Tennessee, but sources/records are needed. The last records for Stephen Senter were Land Grant records in 1794-1797 in Patrick County, Virginia, which was formed from part of Henry County, Virginia in 1790/1.

In the 1770's, Stephen Senter was presumably living in northern Pittsylvania County, where he owned land on the south side of the Pigg River and on Frying Pan (also sp. Fryingpan) Creek (Pittsylvania Co., Va. Deed Book, 1, pg. 477). Frying Pan (now called Harpen) Creek empties into the Pigg a little over a mile from its mouth at a circuitous bend of the Staunton River, which separates Bedford and Pittsylvania Counties. Goose Creek, flowing southeat in Bedford County, empties into the Staunton some ten miles beyond the aforementioned bend, but it is not known where along Goose Creek George Key lived. Could this bend in the Staunton have been the "Frying Pan" bend where Tandy Senter Key was born? With a little imagination, the bend could be compared to a frying pan, and then there is the nearby occurrence of the "Frying Pan" name.

Stovall, married Col. Abraham Penn who was a neighbor of Jared Branson in
