About Abner Senter

Abner Center is LIKELY a son of Stephen and Susannah Senter of Bedford County, Virginia. He is said to have been born in Surry County, North Carolina, and although Stephen Senter was not to have been known to be in Surry County, North Carolina, he DID have records in Patrick and Henry County, Virginia, which were adjacent to Surry County, North Carolina. More research is necessary to conslusively prove Abner Center as a son of Stephen and Susannah Senter, but based upon most credible evidence, it appears likely to be true.

From "Tennessee Cousins" by Worth S. Ray, pg. 461:

Abner Senter, aged 25, 5ft. 4 in., born in Surry County, North Carolina (He was no doubt a brother of Milton and Tandy Senter, though not mentioned in the family History). The Senter family came from Grainger County, Tennessee to Roane County - but evidently came there from Surry County, North Carolina.

Hi Jim, Thanks so much for sending your Center information. As I have time, I am working on my Center line. I found Abner Center, Dawson Center, and a Levi Center listed in Habersham County, Ga. In Habersham County, Ga. Genealogical Records Volume 1, by Herbert B. Kimzey, it states Abner was in the 1790 census of Greenville County, SC. Abner is listed in the 1832 Gold Lottery lists of Habersham County, Ga. and he drew land in Muscogee County, Ga, and Carroll County, Ga. in the same year.( In one source, it states Abner Center and another states Abner Center Jr. so I am not sure which Abner drew the land in Muscogee and Carrollton)

Levi Center is listed as a resident of Habersham County, Ga. and he drew land in Lee County, Ga. in the 1827 drawing. In the 1850 census, Levi is listed as age 60, his wife Easter as 55, and both gave South Carolina as their birthplace.

In the 1830 census of Habersham County, Ga., I found Abner Center listed as age 75 and I found Coy Centre as age 35 (note difference in name spelling)

In the Marriage and Death Notice from the Southern Christian Advocate I found "Died Feb. 24th 1850 at his residence on Cedar Creek, Mr Nathan Center in his 73rd year of his age"
