DNA of descendant matches 24/25 with descendants of brothers Robert and John; 23/25 with descendants of father’s cousin David (1731-1785, m. Agnes White).

According to his Rev. War pension #W21825 application. .. "My parents lived in Chester District SC in 1776..." (when he enlisted 01 April 1776). He served four or five tours of duty with Revolutionary forces, a total of two years and one month. On one tour he was with his brother John, who was killed, also killed was Capt John McClure, "my kinsman". Samuel also mentioned "Col'n Lacy sent my brother with me to get me to some of my relations in Chester." ..."And I was in the state trups three weeks in the place of my brother John Morrow in Capt John Mills Company."

Jeanette Morrow, wife of Samuel Jr in her 87th year signed a statement saying that she knew her husband's brother, John Morrow, served in the Revolution and was killed in it and that he married Mary Kelso. (Revolutionary Pension file #W 9209 of John Morrow).

Bought land in SC in 1784, 1795, 1806, 1807, 1811. Eventually owned 875 acres, mostly in Spartanburg, SC.

Deeded land in 1817 to oldest son John.

1842 Will of Samuel Morrow "of Dutchman Creek SC, Spartanburgh District farmer"..mentions wife Jennet, Samuel Jr; Mary Smith; neice Nancy Morrow; grandson Samuel Smith; son David Morrow; son-in-law Henry M. Story; friend Elihu Smith, Exr, witnesses: W. White, Wm Smith, Levi Rees. Signed 8 Feb 1842, recorded 28 Feb 1842 Will Bk D pg 39 Box 35 Package 23, also filed in folio #2354 Probate Office in Spartanburg, SC.

Personally came before me Maj Samuel Morrow who being sworn in due form of laws on his oath saith that George Morrow a free man of colour was raised and brought up by this deponent that he is the son of Polly a free woman of colour who was emancipated by Samuel Morrow the uncle of this deponent that the said George was born since the emancipation of his mother, and is now upwards of seventy one years of age, to that by the ___ of the state the said George is a free man, and is entitled to all the privileges and immunities of free persons of his colour.

{A deed freeing Polly signed by Samuel Morrow in Spartenburg, long thought to be this man’s father, has also been found. As a result, Major Samuel and his brother John m. Mary Kelso were moved to this family, for the reasons shown above. This placement makes “Old Samuel” his father’s brother.

Capt Saml Murrow" appears as the first family listed in the "Capt Saml Murrow District" of the 1790 census of Spartanburg Co SC, page 25, Series M637 Roll: 11. One male over 16 (Samuel); two sons under 16; 3 females. Also appearing on page 26 was Sam'l Murrow, one male over 16, and three slaves, and nearby was David Murrow and John Elder, who had married Major Sam's sister Mary Morrow.
