Person Information

Lt. John Morrow, was born in Maryland/Pennsylvania about 1749. In 1774 he married Mary Kelso in Chester County, SC. From Chester County he enlisted in Mill's Troops, Sumter's Brigade, and served as a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War. He was killed on November 30, 1781 at Dorchester, SC. Mary Kelso Morrow was born in May of 1755 and died Nov 21, 1842. Jeanette Morrow, wife of Major Samuel in her 87th year signed a statement saying that she knew her husband's brother, John Morrow, served in the Revolution and was killed in it and that he married Mary Kelso. (Revolutionary Pension file #W 9209 of John Morrow). Because Major Samuel lived in the same area as his uncle Samuel, he was often referred to as Samuel Jr. and was long thought to be his son, and thus John, his brother, was also thought to be Samuel’s son. A deed discovered recently makes it clear that the senior Samuel was the uncle. (See additional explanation of the elder Samuel's family here.) Also daughters Mary and Sarah.
