Grandma Meir Passed Away at 94 Years of Age. Mrs. William Meir died at her home in this city Sunday as the result of injuries she received last Thursday night. She was entertaining her son Conrad from Klacking township and went upstairs for something, when through her feebleness she lost her balance and fell to the bottom of the staircase, fracturing the bones of her shoulder and receiving several bad bruises about the head and back. The doctor was immediately called and she was given every relief possible but on account of her old age of 94 years, skillful nursing could not prevent death. This beloved old lady was born in Berlin, Germany and at the age of 23 years shortly after her marriage she came to this country with her husband who died five years ago. To them were born eight children of which only three survive their aged parents. They are Mrs. Stephen Weigers of this city; Conrad Meir of Klacking township and Henry Meir of West Branch township. Other than the three children she leaves a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn her loss. For this good life lived, let us crown her grave with garlands; few of us will live as long or as well, and fewer yet will the Angel of Death greet with such a loving touch. Another name is stricken from the ever lessening roll of our old-settlers, Mrs. Meir having lived in this county during the past 37 years and her many friends will best appreciate her noble life. Yet in such a death there is no cause for grief. Her life work was done and well done. She had passed her golden wedding day and wearied with life's duties and cares, weary of suffering and waiting, she lay down to rest. "Tired! ah, yes! so tired dear, I shall soundly sleep tonight, With never a dream and never a fear, To wake in the morning light." The funeral services were held from the St. Joseph's Catholic church Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock; Rev. Father Haenberg officiating after which all that was mortal were placed at rest in the Catholic cemetery.
