We found the baptism of Gustav Mier in Woolwich,Waterloo Co., Ontario, Canada on 26 Nov 1848. Son of Fredrick Wm Mier and Regina Morgenthal. Witnesses were John Justus Mier, Cathern and Gotfried Mier (grandparents), This was found in the records of Rev Binderman a Lutheran minister. We found the marriage of August Meir and Elizabeth Brentle on 30 Oct 1871 in Carrick Twp., Bruce Co., Ontario, Canada. August probably came to Ogemaw Co. around 1877/78 because his son Jacob is one of the first births (24 May 1878) listed in the Ogemaw Co. records. According to family members August already had a brother here. His uncle Justus Mier and family arrived in 1877/78 also. Many of the families that came to Ogemaw Co. from Canada would come to work in the logging industry in the fall and winter and then send for their families in the spring. August died in 1892 of Peritonitis and so far we have not been able to find any newspapers that far back to give us an obituary. There is an extensive probate file after August's death. It went on for years, 1892- 1931. Elizabeth had 9 living children and was pregnant at the time of August's death. Matilda, was born 2 months after her father died. There is a sealed adoption file for Matilda Mier in the Ogemaw Co. Probate Records. However, I feel that Rosena may have been Matilda. Also, there are sealed records for adoption and or name change for George Mier but we have records on George so he must of stayed a Mier. He is listed in the 1900 census as the adopted son of Frank and Sophie (his sister) Wangler, but his last name is listed as Mears. Another son Alexander must of had a physical handicap because there is a file about him having to be sent to Ann Arbor and then to a special school. It appears he became a ward of the state. The last listing of the family in the probate file in 1931 shows----Elizabeth Mier, widow, age 84, living in Ortonville, MI, William Mier, son, age 58, Ortonville, MI, Sophia Wangler, daughter, age 54, West Branch, Jocob Mier, son, age 52, West Branch, Louise Edwards, daughter, age 50, Detroit, Catherine Evritt, daughter, age 47, Petrosky, Augustus, son, age 43, West Branch, George, son, age 41, Oxford, Elizabeth Linseman, daughter, age 37, Oxford, Rosena Velte, daughter, age 31, Chillioothe, Ohio. There are no headstones or burial records for either August or Elizabeth at Holy Family but we are sure they are buried there.
