United States of America Declaration of Intention State of Mich, County of Ogemaw, In the Circuit court of Ogemaw County I Henry Mier, aged 67 years, occupation Retired Farmer, do declare on oath that my personal description is: Color White, complexion, light, height 5 feet 5 inches, weight 185 pounds, color of hair, light, color of eyes blue, other visible distinctive marks none, I was born in Zurich Ontario, Canada on the 2 day of Mar, anno Domini 1853; I now reside at West Branch, MIch. I emigrated to the United States of America from Sarnia Canada on the vessel: Ferry Boat name unknown; my last foreign residence was Formosa Ont, Canada; I am ___married; the name of my wife is Catchrin Mier; she was born at Zurich Ont, Canada and now resides at West Branch Mich. It is my bona fide intention to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to King George of Great Britain and Ireland, of whom I am now a subject; I arrived at the port of Port Huron, in the State of Mich, on or about the 9th day of February, ;anno Domini 1878; I am not an anarchist; I am not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy; and it is my intention in good faith to become a citizen of the United States of America and to permanently reside therein: SO HELP ME GOD. Ogemaw County Herald, West Branch, Ogemaw Co., MI June 1938 (Josephine Fritz Collection) "Henry Mier Henry Mier died June 14, 1938 after a long illness at the home of his oldest daughter Mrs. Leonard Buhlman. He was born in Formosa, Canada, March 3 1852, coming to Ogemaw 58 years ago when this county was still a wilderness, and settled in Klacking, later moving to West Branch township. In the year 1875 he was married to Miss Katherine Wangler and to this union were born nine children, a daughter passing this life in early girlhood. About sixteen years ago Mr. Mier moved his family from their farm into this city. Mrs. Mier died thirteen years ago and several years later Mr. Mier married Mrs. Rella Bovee, who survives him. Funeral services were held Saturday, from the St. Joseph's church. Rev. U. A. Miller officiating. Burial was made in the St. Joseph's Cemetery. Surviving are his wife and eight children.
