First settled at Dorchester, MA. Moved to Windsor, CT in 1635. Served in the Pequot War in 1637. Joined church at Windsor, CT on 29 Aug 1641. Nathan was part of a large group of men who took the oath of freeman on 14 May 1634 after the oath was shortened and made much less strict.

Recorded in the 1640 Town Records at Windsor in the list of “First Settlers of Windsor, five years after their removal from Dorchester.” [4]

In the Windsor land inventory in January 1640 Nathan Gillett held five parcels: a homestead of five acres (annotated "sold to his brother Jonathan"); three and a half acres in the Little Neck (annotated "sold to Mr. Warham"); "in meadow and upland adjoining in the second meadow twenty[?] acres more or less" (annotated "sold to Robart Hayward"); "in Long Meadow three acres more or less and adjoining to it two acres" (annotated "sold to J. Enows"); and "over the Great River begins one hundred sixty rods back & then is in breadth eleven rods, in length two miles and half" (annotated "this is now Owen Tudor's"). This list was amended 5 June 1660 to include "fifteen acres of land" granted to Nathan Gillet [5]

Received grant of 50 acres for service in War on 12 Oct 1671. Moved to Simsbury, CT after 1670, but death recorded in Windsor. March 1687/1688 he conveyed lands to his eldest son Elias, and son Nathan Jr., and son in law Thomas Wapples and gave deeds to three daughters. Some sources claim French Huguenot derivation of this family but this is contested.

Appears on the 7 Oct 1669 list of freeman at Windsor with Jonathan Jr. and Sr., Cornelius and Joseph Gillet. [1][6]

Connection to William is by virtue of the fact that he conveyed something to his father William Gyllett before 1641.[1]

Founders of Windsor, CT
Windsor was the first permanent English settlement in Connecticut. Local indians granted Plymouth settlers land at the confluence of the Farmington River and the west side of the Connecticut River, and Plymouth settlers (including Jonathan Brewster, son of William) built a trading post in 1633. But the bulk of the settlement came in 1635, when 60 or more people led by Reverend Warham arrived, having trekked overland from Dorchester, Massachusetts. Most had arrived in the New World five years earlier on the ship "Mary and John" from Plymouth, England. The settlement was first called Dorchester, and was renamed Windsor in 1637.
