Facts and Events
See obit. Lorenzo moved to Ohio (Gilboa) as youth and then to IA as "most grown" -soon after Oct. 17, 1852 (age 22) when mother died of Cholera. "Three children died in infancy" (after IA. marriage Apr.3, 1862). Dates of those 3 unknown yet. "An early pioneer of Labette Co., KS, moved there 1866 until 1911 when he moved to Mineral Spring, MO. Obits of Lorenzo, Grant, and Charles C. provided Jul 1996 by Connie McGruder, Rt. 8 Box 408, Neosho, MO 64850. She also provided photo of (front row) Josaphine Braught Campbell, Lorenzo, Mary Braught White, (back row) Samuel M., Cloyd G., and David E. taken at Lemoint, SD (date uncertain, but likely there to settle father's estate). Cloyd was not present, so his photo was later inserted into the photo. Connie's grandmother was Esther Braught Robison. Connie wrote that Lorenzo sold farm near Neosho River ( Neosho, MO) because of Typhoid Fever and returned to Iowa (see Scott Twp, Madison Co., IA 1880 Census below). Iowa Marriages 1851-1900 (Ancestry.com) Warren Co, Iowa shows Lorenzo Braught married Sophia Bickle on 3 Apr. 1862. See 1880 Scott Twsp,Madison Co., IA Census pg.110D, See Warren Co., IA 1849-79 Marriages, See Warren Co., Court Marriage Book A (1860-67). See Scott Twsp, Madison Co., IA 1880 Census 110D: Braught, Lorenzo, 45, Sophia, 39 wife, children Averillo, 17, Loderska, 15, Frank R., 5, Ulyses, 2, and male 6/12. See Josephine Campbell's will of 1911 (says Lorenzo living at Mineral Springs, MO). Lorenzo not in Warren Co.,IA 1860 census with parents (where was he -age 25?). I was told that they moved to Mineral Springs, MO about 1901. See Warren Co., IA Courthouse Records for marriage of Braught, Lorenzo M.(should have been N.) to Sophia Bickle on 3 Apr 1862. Esther Lucretia Braught told her grand daughter, Connie McGruder, that Cloyd, Sam, and Lorenzo each had claims of 160 acres 3 miles So. of Neosho, KS along Neosho River. See gravestone photo (Mineral Springs,MO). It is interesting that Lorenzo and older brother, Franklin Charles, apparently had no civil war military service, as did their younger brothers. Listed among some early settlers of Oswego, KS is L. N. Braught (list obtained 17 Jul 1997 from Eleanor Monroe, curator, at Oswego Museum ). Also obtained there then was Case History of Labette County, Vol. I pg. 127 listing Lorenzo Braught and John Green among settlers there spring 1866. See photos of Lorenzo N. Braught home in Winterset, IA (dated Oct 21,1953), photo of his Baptist Church, and grave stone at Mineral Springs, MO provided by Connie McGruder.
