Jane Hutchinson was born in 1856 at Sunderland in County Durham, daughter of Ann Hutchinson, formerly Veal, and her husband Robert Hutchinson, a paper maker. In 1859, when Jane was about three years old, her mother Ann died. The following year, Jane's father married again. The 1861 census finds Jane living with her father, stepmother and siblings living at Walker Street in Sunderland. She has yet to be researched after 1861.
