- ↑ There is a block of records that were inserted into the Lancaster records (p. 125) on request by a descendant ("Entered by Request of Henry Houghton, of Putney Vermont as his certificate on file will show. May 16 1825. Attest Josiah Flagg town Clerk of Lancaster.") It is unfortunate that they seem to be in error because by entering them in the record, many people have been misled by their errors. John's wife Mary married him in 1672 and did not die until 1724 so there was no couple named John and Anna. The age at death of Jacob shows the birth date to be wrong. Jacob had children before his alleged marriage in 1704 and there is no evidence there was any wife except Rebecca (else they were both over 30 when married). Benjamin, b. 1700, is called the second son, so Jacob, the eldest son, was born before 1700, not 1708. The records, so inserted, are:
Jacob son of John Houghton and Anna Houghton his wife was born July 24 1680. Jacob Houghton & Rebecca Whitcomb were Married Dec 16 1704 Jacob Houghton Son of Jacob Houghton & Rebecka his wife was born January 2, 1708 Jacob Houghton and Mary Willard were Marriage April 6. 1730. ...
