Source:Houghton, John Wesley. Houghton Genealogy is hopelessly confused about Benjamin Houghton. It lists him as a son of Benjamin Houghton and "Zermiah" Moore (even though Benjamin Houghton and Zerviah Moore did not marry until 1720), not Jacob. He is shown b. 1700, with brothers Jacob b. 1696, Josiah b. 1698 and Silas b. 1742! A Jacob b. 1696 is also listed as son of Jacob Houghton and Rebecca Whitcomb. Having some basis in probate documents, the treatment in NEHGR seems far more reasonable. It is hard to take the Houghton Genealogy seriously.
