  2.   Source:Houghton, John Wesley. Houghton Genealogy, p. 312, list a son Abijah, b. "1723", and a daughter Abigail, b. "1724" (i.e., no precise dates for either). No information besides the birth assertion is given for Abigail. Source:Lancaster, Worcester, Massachusetts, United States. Birth, Marriage and Death Register, Church Records and Epitaphs of Lancaster, Massachusetts, 1643-1850 lists both the birth and baptism of Abijah, but neither for any daughter Abigail, or any child until daughter Relief is born in 1726. The article on the Houghton Family in NEHGR does not list a daughter Abigail. It is suspected that Abigail is caused by confusion or misreading of the name Abijah.

Likewise, the Houghton Genealogy lists a son Ephraim, b. 1742. This appears to be based on an entry in the Lancaster records following the other children of Benjamin and Ruth saying "Ephraim ---", from which the Houghton Genealogy apparently assumed the clerk was saying they also had a son Ephraim born after Benjamin (Elizabeth's record comes in a different place). However, nothing further is given for Ephraim, no corresponding baptism is found in the church records, and the NEHGR article does not include a son Ephraim. So it appears that the town clerk started an entry in the wrong place, and the Houghton Genealogy was confused by the left-over artifact?
