1863 May 4, Cedar Villa, Hamilton Co., OH. Evan's cousin, Ada Wyckoff, wrote their cousin Tighlman Jones: "Evan Wilkinson has gone to California / I think he will have a gay time of it. I would rather enter my countries service and run the risk of my life in a noble cause. He will stand as good a chance of living there as he will croping [crossing] the plains" 1864 Jan. 21, Mason, Warren Co., OH. Ada Wyckoff wrote her cousin Tighlman Jones: "I got a letter from Jennie Wilkinson last week / she said that her brother Evan was working in a ranch at thirty dollars a month. He had better be working for uncle Sam." 1870 May 31, Santa Rosa, Sonoma Co., CA. Named after his maternal grandfather, Evan's marriage record confirms his name, Evan W. Jones WILKINSON.
