Elizabeth Preston was baptised on 26th December 1745 at Kirkby la Thorpe in Lincolnshire, daughter of Bridget Preston, formerly Vincon, and her husband John Preston, a carpenter. In 1753, when Elizabeth was seven years old, her mother died. Her father married again in 1756 to a widow called Elizabeth Simmerson, who became Elizabeth's stepmother. Elizabeth's stepmother died in 1769.

On 20th February 1770 Elizabeth married William Allen at Kirkby la Thorpe. Her older brother Thomas was one of the witnesses to the marriage. Over the next eleven years they had six children baptised at Kirkby la Thorpe, although two of them died as babies. Elizabeth's father died in 1777.

Elizabeth's husband William died in 1782 when he was 37 years old. Elizabeth was left with four surviving children to look after, aged between one and eleven years old. Elizabeth married again eighteen months after William's death later to a David Procter.

Elizabeth and David went on to have another four children baptised at Kirkby la Thorpe between 1785 and 1788, including twins in 1788. Two of these children also died young, including one of the twins. The twins' baptism records that they were paupers.

In 1799, Elizabeth's first known grandchild was baptised, being the illegitimate son of her son William. It appears that Elizabeth had at least eight grandchildren born in her lifetime.

In 1810, Elizabeth's daughter Mary died at the age of 40. She had never married.

Elizabeth died at the age of 69. She was buried at Kirkby la Thorpe, where she appears to have lived her entire life, on 7th May 1815. David survived her by nearly eleven years and married again three months after Elizabeth's death.

Baptisms 1745 / Elizabeth Daughter of John Preston and Bridget his Wife was baptiz[e]d Decemb[e]r 26th

This baptism has been linked to the Elizabeth Preston who married William Allen on the basis that it is in the same parish in which she lived as an adult, at around the time implied by the age quoted when she died, and one of the witnesses to her marriage was a Thomas Preston, and the Elizabeth baptised in 1745 had an older brother called Thomas.
