Vincent Preston was baptised on 27th December 1743 at Kirkby la Thorpe in Lincolnshire, son of Bridget Preston, formerly Vincent, and her husband John Preston, a carpenter. When Vincent was nine years old his mother died.

On 6th September 1768, aged 24, Vincent married Mary Carpenter at Long Sutton, nearly 30 miles south-east of Kirkby la Thorpe. Vincent's older sister Frances had moved to Long Sutton a few years earlier.

Vincent and Mary went on to have six children baptised at Long Sutton between 1769 and 1775, although at least two died young. Most of the children's baptisms describe Vincent as being a labourer, although in 1773 he was described as a farmer. Mary died in 1776.

Vincent married again on 4th February 1779 to Mary Gelder. They went on to have another seven children baptised at Long Sutton between 1779 and 1792, but at least five of them died young.

Mary and Vincent have yet to be traced after the baptism of their youngest son in 1792. There was a widow called Mary Preston who married in Long Sutton in 1801 which may be her, which would suggest Vincent died some time between 1792 and 1801, but no burial record for him has been found at Long Sutton.
