Children

Neither Alexander Dugger nor his wife Ann left a Will, nor have any estate, probate or other records been found that would prove who any of their children were. However, various lists has been compiled by researchers over the years of who their children probably were.

This list of children is mainly based on circumstantial evidence, though it is fairly compelling, but unfortunately not conclusive. In spite of that most researchers think the list is accurate. Here is a brief overview of those children and why they are thought to be Alexander's:

  1. Lydia Dugger, married in 1794 in Orange Co., NC. Married while Alexander was living there. Also has his mother's name, so that seems to tie her to him.
  2. Daniel Dugger (1770/80) lived in Greene Co., TN when Alexander did. Daniel was bondsman for marriage of Alexander Dugger (Jr) in Greene, suggesting that those two were siblings.
  3. Shadrack Dugger (1774), married in Orange Co., NC while Alexander was living there. Went to Greene Co., TN when Alexander did. Bondsman for 1804 marriages of David Dugger and James Dugger, suggesting the three were siblings.
  4. Claiborne Dugger (1780/90), in Greene Co., TN same time as Alexander and family.
  5. James Dugger (c1784) in Greene Co., TN same time as others. Shadrack Dugger was bondsman for his marriage suggesting the two were siblings.
  6. David Dugger (1786) in Greene Co., TN with others, Shadrack Dugger was bondsman for his marriage suggesting the two were siblings.
  7. Alexander Dugger (1786) in Greene Co., TN with others, Daniel Dugger was bondsman for his marriage suggesting the two were siblings. Shares birth date with David, suggesting the two are twins, though source for dates is unknown.
  8. Joseph Dugger (1788) in Greene Co., TN same time as the others.

From the list above you can see the connections are all based on proximity and association. This suggests that the children were all siblings, or very closely related. Alexander Dugger was the only older Dugger in the same area, so therefore it seems most likely he is their father.

There are probably other children we don't know about.
