Data:Walker Deeds on Walkers Creek

Intro

There are at least three, and perhaps four or more, genetically distinct lines of Walkers in Old Augusta County. The most well known of these is the Wigton Walker line as defined by White 1902, but YDNA evidence indicates that it is composed of at least two separate lineages, commonly referred to as the "Natural Bridge" and "Walkers Creek" lines. These two lines intermarried and members of each are found living on Walkers Creek in the north of Rockbridge county. A third line is focused on the line of an person:Alexander Walker (42) who settled on Little Run (modern Broad Run) in northern Augusta County. It too, is sometimes thought of as a Wigton Walker line, but does not match well with data given by White 1902. Other Walkers have been identified in this same general area, and are often described as "Wigton Walkers", though in recent years YDNA evidence has shown them to be unrelated. Data is being gathered on all of these separate lines.

Walkers Creek

This map shows the Walkers who secured grants from Benjamin Border during the early settlement period of Borden's Grant. White, 1902 tells us that Gunstocker John Walker settled to the north on Walkers Creek, Sawney Alexander settled a mile further south, and his cousin Alexander son of John Walker II settle another mile further south, closer to Jump Mountain. The property owned by Gunstocker John is clearly that shown in pale green, and that of his brother Alexander in yellow. The property of their counsin Alexander does not appear as such, but may be that shown in this depiction by James. The property shown in brown may be that of John Walker III. The property owned by "John Jr." is thoght to be that of John son of "Sawney" Alexander Walker See Analysis:Walker property on Borden's Grant for an assessment of ownership of these parcels. See: Quick Wigton Walker Index for a list of early Wigton Walker males.
