Rumgays [24 June 2008]

Hi Jim,

I noticed that you have a number of Rumgays in your family tree. I'm working on a new project called the Rumgay Family Exchange to post Rumgay source information to share with others. I'd love it if you stopped by and took a look. --Lauren 11:42, 24 June 2008 (EDT)

Muir family tree 08-07-26.ged appears to overlap a previously-imported GEDCOM [7 August 2008]

The pages from this GEDCOM have not yet been generated because they appear to match pages from a GEDCOM you have previously imported to WeRelate.

If you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM and you want to replace that tree with this GEDCOM, you need to delete that tree first so duplicates aren't created when you import this GEDCOM. Go to the Family Tree page, scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click on the "delete" link next to that tree. Please be aware that any pages in that tree that are being watched by others won't get deleted. Once that tree is deleted you can create a new tree and re-upload this GEDCOM into it. (We're planning to make re-uploading GEDCOM files much simpler later this Fall.)

If you don't think you have already imported a GEDCOM containing people in this GEDCOM, or if the two GEDCOM's don't overlap that much, leave a message for Dallan or send an email to dallan@WeRelate.org and we'll go ahead with the import.

Cowan Information [6 August 2011]

Am interested if there are any living Cowan males from this line and establishing contact with you.--LauraCowanCooper 02:50, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

Sorry. I have no record of anyone researching the Cowan name that I can recall. I do have a number of Cowans married to various members my Muir family tree. I research the male Muir lines but not the female Muir lines unless I meet a descendent through my research. So I have Muir descendents of a number of female Cowans but would not normally have these for the Male Cowans. I hope this explanation is not confusing.

Ben Gambrill & Emily Barnes [6 August 2011]

HI Jim,

Do you have a photo of Benjamin or Emily or of their children? Or any other relavent info

Gambrill is my interest, and those those that came after convict William Gambrill.

www.bobbyfamilytree.com--Bobbyfamilytree 21:09, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

I have not looked at this site for a few years which explains the current date of my reply. I don't recognize the name Emily Barnes nor do I have a Ben Gambrill in my tree and so would not have any pics. I do have a Myrtle Harriet Gambrill (1900-1972) who married a George Rumgay (1872-1931); he is a 2nd cousin 3X removed on my paternal Grandmother's side of the family (nee Rumgay).

confusion on the family of John Beveridge and Janet Beveridge [7 April 2011]

Hi Jim,

I have seen several family trees mix information from these families: "John Beveridge and Janet Beveridge", "John Beveridge and Janet Elder", "James Beveridge and Janet Beveridge"

Here is my list of children for John and Janet (there seem to be OPRs for all but John): James, Christian, Thomas, Dorothy, John, Edward, Walter, Johan

However, I don't know if all of these individuals belong to the same John and Janet. I does seem clear, however, that this family moved from Camlachie to Fordel at some point as both Christian and Dorothy are married there.--BrianTX 12:39, 7 April 2011 (EDT)

muir family [6 August 2011]

hi,Jim,i think you are a cousin of my mother, Sabina Mchale, kind regards,jim--JimmyBoy 09:25, 5 August 2011 (EDT)

We may be. I have 3 male McHales in my tree-all about the later 1800s. I research the male Muir lines only although I add descendents of the female Muirs whom I meet through my research. So I do not have the ancestry of these McHales. The most logical one is Thomas McHale (1883-1949) who married Mary Muir (1886-). She is my 3rd Cousin 2X removed. would this be a likely match?

muir family [7 August 2011]

hi,Jim, thanks for your e mail,my granmother was Cecila Muir, she was part of a large family from the Dalgety area of Fife, a lot of the women ,married people for the HILL OF BEATH area,James Mchale married Cecilia Muir, Thomas Mchale married Mary Muir, 2 brother x 2 sisters Muir girls, married,Kelly, Denhlom,Allan.Sawers,Neilson, and more, i have the Muir family tree, goes back to Dalgety, to 1731, very interesting,my great uncle John Sawers Muir, he died, about 2 years ago, AGED 104,i think my mother had about 90 full cousins !!! cheers, Jim--JimmyBoy 03:52, 7 August 2011 (EDT)

Hi to you Jimmy Boy,

From your reply, I now remember the McHale brothers marrying two Muir sisters; I was excited when I originally discovered this fact. I got most of my info on this Muir branch from a 3rd or 4th cousin, Carole Muir Sturgiss, whom I have visited in England, and a J. Anderson in Rootsweb.com. I also remember John Sawers Muir and have some info. I have his DOD as 2006 but no month or day. I cannot see that I have his POD. I have a pic of him courtesy of J. Anderson and have his wife and daughters in my tree with one's spouse and a few bits of other info but none on their POB. One daughter died in Toronto, Canada where I live. Now that I have met you via WeRelate, I would like to add you and your direct line from Cecilia. I assume you have it in your tree on WeRelate. If not, are you a member of "Genes Reunited"? I am and could access it there.

Thanks to your query, I have updated my tree in WeRelate which I have not done for a few years-there have been additions, modifications and a few errors yet to be verified and corrected. I see your Muir tree goes back to 1731. I actually have about 6 or 7 Muir families in my tree - mine back to Mathew Muir (1658-)/Agnes Davidson (1664-)(although I got this from other researchers and haven't independently verified it yet)plus the others all related by inter-marriage between Muirs.

Get back to me on whether or not you and your ancestry are on your tree in WeRelate or if you are a member of "Genes".

Regards,

Jim Muir--Jim Muir 14:25, 7 August 2011 (EDT)

Next step: Review your GEDCOM [7 August 2011]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded Muir family tree 10-10-20.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Aged gedcom [21 August 2011]

Hi, We normally delete abandoned gedcoms after a period of time. Your gedcom was scheduled to be removed today. If you are working on it, please reply here and I can hold it for you. Otherwise, please remove it using the button on the Overview tab in gedcom review. Either way, I would like to know. Thanks. --Judy (jlanoux) 12:17, 20 August 2011 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

moving your response back here to keep conversation together.
I would prefer to leave it if possible. I tried to update it recently and got a message listing numerous entries you considered incompatible, such as two people named Muir from different Muir families being married to each other which was quite common in the 1700-1800s. I am in the process of investigating the entries you questioned and would like to update my tree. However, I don't receive the same volume of queries as I do from other sites so, if it serves your prupose to delete my tree and account, I have no objections.

Jim Muir--Jim Muir 22:20, 20 August 2011 (EDT)

You are welcome to more time if you need it. The surname alert is not a major problem. We just note things for those who want to tidy up. However, we do ask that you look at warnings and errors. They are often real problems. Thanks for letting me know you are still working. I'll check back at the end of the month if your gedcom is still there. --Judy (jlanoux) 11:06, 21 August 2011 (EDT)
