Next step: Review your GEDCOM [16 October 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded crossett.GED, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Gedcom Review Issues [19 October 2010]

Hi, I'm glad you were able to find the problem with your gedcom import. It is a good idea to try several sets of options to get the best import. I had spent over an hour cleaning up your original file. So I'd like you to handle a few things as you go through the review. "Placeholder" people should be excluded by checking the box. This will surpress creating a useless web page for "Wife of John Jones" or "Infant Smith". The infants can be noted on the Family page to explain the birth gaps. While most people don't bother with the same surname warnings, warnings which indicate date errors should be fixed before we import into the shared database. You can leave a message here if you have any questions. I'll be watching while we're working on imports. Thanks and enjoy WeRelate. --Judy (jlanoux) 10:57, 19 October 2010 (EDT) (WeRelate volunteer)

Henry Lyon [14 April 2011]

You removed parts of some source citations on Person:Henry Lyon (7) that were accurate reflections of what the source said. The source may be wrong, but this would not be the proper way of dealing with that situation. The proper way would be to add a note explaining that the source has been shown to be wrong by modern research, to cite the sources describing what research and what documents prove this, not to simply remove the information without explanation or justification. After all, this is a community genealogy, not a personal one, and it is incumbent on contributors to make a case for what they present. --Jrich 15:13, 14 April 2011 (EDT)

Ichabod Grumman [6 October 2011]

I see that you deleted the Family: Ichabod Grumman and Bethiah Lyon without giving any reason or forewarning. Could you please explain ? Also you deleted other siblings.--Neal Gardner 15:25, 6 October 2011 (EDT)

I believe he deleted his whole tree ([1]). So all pages which only he was watching are gone. --Jrich 20:27, 6 October 2011 (EDT)
