To all to whom these presents shall come greeting Know ye that we for and in consideration of the sum of fifty shillings for every hundred acres hearby granted paid into our tresasurey by Robert Cowan have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Robert Cowan a tract of Lands containing one hundred and Eighty acres Lying and being in our County of Sullivan on the North side of Holston river Begining at a white oak and red Oak on James Harris line thence along his line South thirty East one hundred and forty pole to a white oak and red oak on the top of a ridge on the widow Youngs line thence on her line North forty six East one hundred and twenty Eight pole to a red oak thence North forty East one hundred and forty four pole to two red oak on the gap of a ridge on on John Sharps line thence on his line North twenty Eight west sixty Eight pole to a red oak at a ridge thence along said ridge a Straight course to the begining As by the plat hear unto annaned doth appear together with all woods waters mines minerals heredetaments? and appurtinanies assets the Said land belonging or appertaining to hold to the said Robert Cowan his heirs and assigns forever yealding and paying to us such sums of money yearlyor otherwise as our general assembly from time to time may direct povided allways that the said Robert Cowan shall cause this grant to be registered in the registers office of our said County of Sullivan within twelve months from the date hearof otherwise the same shall be void and of no effect In testimony whereof we have caused our great seal to be hear unto affixed Witness alaxder Martin Esq our governor Captain general and Commander in Chief at Fainfield the twenty third day of october in the seventh year of our Independence and in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eight two

BOOK 3 PAGE 111 AND 112 In 1797 another deed is filed in Sullivan County as shown below: This Indenture made the 27th of February 1797 Between James Harris of Sullivan County and State of Tennessee of the one part and Robert Cowan of the County aforesaid of the other part witnesseth that the said James Harris for and in Consideration of three hundred Dollars to him the said James Harris in hand paid the Receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged he the said James Harris hath granted Bargained and Sold and by these present doth grant bargain and sell unto the said Robert Cowan acertain piece or parcel of Land part of the plantationwhereon the said James Harris now lives and bounded as follows that is to Say Begining at two white Oaks on a ridge thence north 73 west 33 poles o three white oaks then North 40 East 220 pole to a Stake on or Near Robt Cowans line thence with the same South 50 East 95 pole to a stake on David Drydens line thence with the same South 57 west 2 So poles to the place of Begining and containing fifty acres be the more same More or less to hold to him the said Robt Cowan his heirs and assigns from the day hereof forever and that freed and discharged of and from all Deeds Mortgages or other incumbances whatsoever heretofore had done or suffered and said James Harris doh hereby Covenant and agree that at the time of Executing these present he the said James Harris hathgood Rightful power and sufficient authoritytogrant and Conveythe piece or parcel oflandhereby Bargained and sold with the appurtenances unto the said Robert Cowan his heirs and assigns in maner herein before mentioned and that he the saidRobt Cowan his heirs and assigns he hereby bargained and sold promisses with the appurtenances shall and may peaceably have hold occupy possess and enjoy from the date thereof forever without any hindrance molestations or interruption of him the said Harris his heirs or assigns or of any other person claiming or to Claim by from or under him them or any of them and that the said James Harris his heirs and assigns shall and will at any time hereafter upon the Reasonable Request and at the cost of the said Robt Cowan his heirs or assigns make and execute such other deed or conveyance as may be necessary for the further and better conveying the herby bargained and sold premisses as may be deemed necessary and that he the said James Harris his heirs and assigns the Right of the hereby Bargained and sold premisses to him the said Robt Cowan his heirs and will forever warrant and defend by these presents in witness whereof the Said James Harris Hath hereunto put his hand and seal the day of year first above written.

This Indenture Made 22th day of May in the year of our Lord 1797 between Thomas Drinn of the one part and Robert Cowan of the other part Both of the County of Sullivan and State of Tennessee withesseth that in consideration of the sum of ninety pounds to him the said Thos Drin well and Truly paid in hand at or before the sealing of these presents the Receipt whereof the said Thomas Drin doth hereby acknowledge have Bargain and Soold and Confirmed in fee Simple unto the said Robert Cowan his heirs Admr or Assigns forever acertain tract or parcel of land Containing one hundrd Acres Bounded as follows: to wit Begining at Robert Cowans Corner at a white Oak Red oak and poplar runing thence South 36 west 175 poles to astake thence North 50 west 114 poles to two white oaks and black oak then North 57 East and 75 poles to astake on James Harrises line Thence with Cowans line South 50 East 66 poles to the Begining together with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging free from all hindrance of any person whatever lawfully claiming the same to have and tohold all the aforesaid land and premisses with every part and parcel thereof free from all incumbrances of mortgage dowers and Reversions by or from me the said Thos Drin or any other person or persons whever and to be to the only use of him the said Robert Cowan his heir forever and Lastly I the said Thos Drin do herby promise Convenant and agree to and with the said Robert Cowan his heirs that I have full power and lawful authority to sell and convey the aforesaid lands and premisses and will at any time at the Lawful Request and proper cost of him the said Robert Cowan make any other Conveyance or assurance that shall be by law Requird to pass the fee simple Estate of the said land and premisses from me the said Thos. Drin to him the said Robert Cowan his heirs forever in witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the day and date above mentioned.

This Indenture made this first day of September one thousand Eight hundred and Eleven between Jane Moss of the one part and Robert Cowan of the other part both of the County of Sullivan and State of Tennessee Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the Sum of Eight hundred Dollars Cureent Money, of the State of Tennesee to him the said Robert Cowan in hand paid at or before the Sealing and do (...ing) of these presents the whereof is hereby acknowledged have Bargained and sold in fee Simple and Confirm unto him the said Robert Cowan his heirs Execuors, Administrators and assigns for ever a certain tract of land Containing Eight Acres lying in tract of land containing Eight Acres lying in the County of Sullivan on a branch of Beaver Creek Beginning at a Black oak and white Oak then along the line North by twelve Degrees west Sixty poles to line white Oakes then west Thirty Foru poles to two white Oaks and near David Steels Line there with his line South Thirty Six to ?? west two hundred and twenty poles to a white Oak then East fifty four Poles to a Stake then a straight line to the Beginning together with all Houses and Improvements and appurtenances thereunto belonging with all nints and ussurvations and other the Esatate write and Title that is now hers after may appetain to the same from few from trouble hindrance or any other person Claiming lawfully the same and I do by these presents warrant and Defend the said Sale of land above described from me my heirs Executors administrators and assigns and ?? other persons whateer to him the said Robert Cowan his heirs Executers and assigns the above bargain do remises in fee simple forever in Witness whereof I have heirs unto set my hand and affix my seal this day and date aboave written.

This indenture made this First day of Sept one thousand eight hundred and Elven Between Jane Moss of the one part and Robert Cowan of the other part both of the County of Sullivan and State of Tennesee witnesseth that for and in Consideration of the sum of Eight Hunded Dollars ?? and money of the State of Tennesee to her the same Jane Moss in Land paid on or before the sealing and delivering of these presents the Receipt whereof I do acknowledge have bargained and sold in fee simple and Confirmed until him the said Robert Cowan his heirs executors administrators and assis forever a certain tract or parcel of land containing ninety six acres more of less lying and being in the County of Sullivan beginning at a pine tree on David Steele Line then along said line South twenty seven east one hundred and forty Eight poles to David Steeles Corner White Oak Then on said line North Thirty six East two hundred and eighty six poles to a Stake then a new line South Sixty west one hundred and forty four poles to a Black Oak and pine tree then a straight line to the beginning it being a back of the Tract of Land whereon David Steele now lives together with houses and Improvements and appurtenances thereupon with all Rents Reservations and other the estate Rights and title that is now or hereafter may apperts? on to the same free from trouble hindrances or any other person Claiming lawfully the same and I do by thee presents warrant and defend the said Tract of Land above described from me my heirs executors administrators and assigns and all other persons personally whatever to him the said Robert Cowan his heirs executors and assigns the above Bargain Promises in fee Simple forever in witness hereof I hae hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this day and Date above written.

This Indenture made this Seventeeth day of February One Thousand eight hundred and Sixteen Between Robert Cowan of the one part William Cowan of the Other part both of the County of Sullivan and State of Tennesee Witnesseth tht for and in consideration of the Sum of Four Hundred Dollars in hand paid the receipt thereof ....hereby acknowledged have bargained and Sold in fee simple and confirms unto him the said William Cowan his heirs executers administrators and Assigns for ever a certain tract of land containing eighty Acres lying and being in the County of Sullivan on a Branch of Beaver Creek Beginning at Stake Pole and 1 white Oak then along the Knobb North twelve degrees West Sixtypoles to two white Oaks* on or near David Steels line, then with this line South Thirty Six Degrees West two hundred and twenty Poles to a White Oak, then East fifty four poles to a Stake then a Straight line to the Beginning together with all houses and improvements and appurtenances thereunto belonging with all rents and .....and Other estate right and title that is now or hereafter assertain to the same free from hindrance or any other persons claiming lawfully the same and I do by these presents warrant and defend the said tract of land as above described from me my heirs executors administrators and Assigns and all Other Persons whatever to him the said William Cowan his heirs excutors and assigns(exed out) Witnesseth thereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my Seal the day and date above written. This Indenture made the Seventeeth of February One thousand eight hundred and Sixteen Between Robert Cowan of the one part and William Cowan of the other part both of Sullivan County and State of Tennesee Witnesseth that the said Robert Cowan for and consideration of Four Hundred Dollars in hand paid a receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged and these presents have bargained and sold in Fee simple and confirmed and to the said William Cowan and his heirs administrators and assigns for ever a certain tract of land containing ninety Six Acres for the same more or less lying and being in the County of Sullivan Beginning at a Pine Tree in David Steels line there along said line South Past? One hundred and Forty-eight poles to David Steels corner White Oak then on said line North thirty six East Five hundred and eighty six poles to a Stake then a new line South Sixty West One hundred and fifty four poles to a Black Oak and Pine Tree then a Strait line to the Beginning it being a part of the tract of land whereon David Steel now lives together with all houses and improvements and appenturancies thereunto belonging with out any reservation or other the estate might and title that is now or hereafter assertain to this same free from trouble and hinderance of any other person claiming lawfully and I do by these presents Warrant and defend the said tract of land above described from ... my heirs and assigns forever the above bargain ....in fee simple for ever On ....whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affexed my Seal this day and date above written.

This Indenture made this fifteenth day of May in the Year one thousand eight hundred and eighteen between Staunton Pemberton the executor of the last Will and Testament of James Offill Decd and of Washington County, State of Virginia of the one part and Robert Cowan of Sullivan County State of Tennessee of the other part Witnesseth that the said Staunton Pemberton Executor in and for the consideration of the sum of Nine? Hunded and Ten dollars in hand Paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged has bargained-sold conveyed and made over and those presents doth bagain sell convey and make over unto the said Robert Cowen and his heir all the right title claim and interest that the said James Offile Decd had in and to a certain tract or parcel of land containing Ninety Seven Acres lying in the County of Sullivan on the South side of Holston River Beginning at a Forked Sugar Tree, thence North twelve poles to a White Oak and Birch on the bank of said River, then down the ?remainder? of the same, North Seventy Seven West-Forty Six poles to a White Oak Pine and Birch, then along down said river South Twenty eight West forty poles to three White Oak ?Hierries?, thence with the same South thirty East forty four poles to two Sycamore trees, thence South Seventy East-seventy four poles to a large Poplar and Birch on the bank of said River therein with the same North eighty East-Forty two poles to a H??? and Elm, thence North fourteen poles to two large White Oaks and Birch, thence North forty East One hundred and fifteen poles to a Stke thence a direct line to the Beginning including Isaac Riddles old Survey Surveyed December the 7th 1808 with the house ???and appertenances to the said Robert Cowen and his heirs for ever and I the said David Staunton Pemberton Executor ----my said ? heirs > do warrant and forever defend any part and parecel of the above mentioned land with the assurancy unto the said Robert Cowan from the heirs of the said James offile Decd and from all persons whatever who ma claim at ? any right or or ? in the said James Offille as Witnesses whereof the said Staunton Pemberton executor hath hereunto let his hand and seal the day and date above written Signed sealed and delivered in the presence of
