This Ordnance Survey map of 1900 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates all the original rural districts established in Wiltshire in 1894. In 1934 there were a number of mergers of neighbouring districts.
Chippenham Rural District was in the northwestern part of Wiltshire bordering the counties of Gloucestershire and Somerset on the west. To the north was Malmesbury Rural District, to the east was Calne Rural District, and to the south were Melksham and Bradford on Avon Rural Districts. Chippenham Rural District existed from 1894 until 1934 when it became part of the Calne and Chippenham Rural District.
