This Ordnance Survey map of 1900 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates all the original rural districts established in Wiltshire in 1894. In 1934 there were a number of mergers of neighbouring districts.

Bradford on Avon Rural District was on the western side of Wiltshire with Somerset across the county border. To the south was the rural district of Westbury and Whorwellsdown, to the east that of Melksham, and to the north that of Chippenham. Bradford on Avon Rural District existed from 1894 until 1934 when it became part of Bradford and Melksham Rural District.
