This Ordnance Survey map of 1944 from A Vision of Britain through Time locates the rural districts in existence in Wiltshire between 1934 and 1974.

Bradford and Melksham Rural District was a merger of the earlier rural districts of Bradford on Avon Rural District and Melksham Rural District. The rural district was in the western part of Wiltshire with Somerset across the county borders to the west. It surrounded the urban districts of Bradford on Avon and Melksham. To the north was the rural district of Calne and Chippenham; to the east that of Devizes; and to the south the municipal borough of Trowbridge and the Warminster and Westbury Rural District. Bradford and Melksham Rural District existed from 1934 until 1974 when it became part of the West Wiltshire District.
