Facts and Events
Name William Morrow
Gender Male
Birth? Abt 1771
Marriage to Jane (add)
Unknown? Refuted child: Joseph Morrow (12)
Death? 9 Mar 1846 Greene County, Illinois

Bio of son Jesse says he moved to Greene Co, IL in 1819.

On Sept. 17, 1840, the estate of William Morrow, Jr., married to Rachel, was distributed under law to his parents (William Morrow Sr. and Jane Morrow) and his siblings: John, Jesse, Abner, Zachariah, Elizabeth Allen (m James M.) and Sarah Rhodes (m. Alden).[3]

A separate deed in Jun 1841 transfers property from William and Jane to their youngest son George W. Morrow, who would presumably have been the teenager in the 1840 census.[4]

Based on the documents and census records, his children were:

  • John b. 1798
  • Elizabeth b. 1800 m. James Allen
  • William [16-18 in 1820] m. 1831
  • Abner b. 1806
  • Jesse b. 1812
  • Sarah b. 1820 m. Alden Rhodes
  • Zachariah b. 1818
  • George W. b. 1823

The documents above, plus the DNA results discussed below, rule out that William is the biological father of Joseph Samuel Morrow (1820-1864), who was of age and local in 1840, and thus would have been named had he been an heir fo William Jr. However, it is possible that Joseph lived with them (there is an unaccounted for male in the census records of the same age) or is otherwise connected with the family given his migration pattern and names of his children.

DNA

MorrowDNA - Group 4 (NC) ~ Tested Line ~ Early Ancestor: John Morrow of Rowan Co, NC (father) ~ Tested sons Jesse and John
Other Group 4: William and James Morrow of Orange Co, NC - David Murray of Sussex, DE - Thomas Morrow m. Rebecca Small - Thomas Morrow m. Nancy Mann (info)

The first two descendants of William to test--from Joseph Samuel and Jesse--did not match at all, and one only vaguely matched John, throwing doubt on the structure of this line. Further testing appears to indicate that Joseph descendants match more closely with BRAY descendants than Morrows. Combined with the documents above, this ruled out Joseph as a biological son and confirmed a timeline that is consistent with placement of John as a son. However, the lines have only been tested to 34 markers, so more testing both from these lines and brothers/uncles would be useful.
