- William McDowell Sr. of Lewisburg, Greenbrier Co., Virginia (later included West Virginia). Greenbrier County was part of Augusta Co., VA. There is no 1790 Census. It has been suggested by some that William McDowell Sr. came from Lancaster County, P A. before settling in Greenbrier County, VA. and before that he lived in Ireland. And some say he is related to Ephraim McDowell. Estate settlement of Wiiliam McDowell, Sr. from Ross B.
