The following article is presented as written, with no attempt to correct the spelling. WILLIAM MCCOY was borned in Scotland and came to what was then called the New World, which is now called the United States of America. And, in the meantime, he rote to his five brothers to come to the New World, for there was a great chance to get wealthy, as they were of royal stock in that country.

And the sed William married a lady by the name of Nancy Hamilton and they went over the Blue Ridge Mountain and settled in Greenbriar County, Virginia, (now West Virginia). And when his brothers came, he, William McCoy and wife, was gone and the sed William did not leave any word of where he had gone, and his brothers separated. Some went to Pennsylvania, and some to Virginia, and one went to South Carolina, and the Tories and British hung him for not being loyal to the King of England in the time of the Revolutionary War.

William McCoy had five children; John, James, Moses, Andrew, and a daughter who married a man by the name of Hanna. Andrew married a lady by the name of Sarah Williams. He was McCoys were Methodist as far back as we can find out. Andrew McCoy was the only one that had a house large enough to hold religious service in, and his home was the place they held worship in till they got school houses built. Lt. William McCoy,s children are named in the Lane Grant book of Greenbrier County, Virginia (now West Virginia) in the Auditor's office; Vol. I, Pg. 558.
