M. Harriet Baxter. Will probated 3 Apr 1852.

!BIRTH: Surmised from 1820-1840 census records (Clermont Co.) and comparison with the other children in the family.

!MARRIAGE: Orville Jones Notes; will; 1880 census (Ohio twp., Cler., Ohio

[Tate No. 220]) He may have previously married Joanna West. (Mrs. Joanna Hicks, 42 + John Swick, 62 on 14 Apr 1872--Cler. Co., Ohio mar rec. (v 11, p 426). If this is the same Joanna West, she obviously survived William Hicks; thus was not married to our William Hicks, whose wife at death was Harriet.)

!DEATH: Will probate date (Campbell Co., Ky.)

WILL: Will probated first in Campbell Co., Ky., and then a certified copy

probated in Clermont Co., Ohio. (Book G, P 31; 1852, Cler. Co.) Will
was probated in Ohio on 3 Apr 1852. The will states:
I, William Hicks, do hereby convey the right, title, and free use
of all my property to my wife Harriet Hicks to have and to hold and
to make use of the same so long as she remains my widow. In case
she marries, it is my will that she shall retain one-third part
after my just debts are paid; the two-thirds shall be devoted to
the use of my children. It is my will that the business existing
under the firm of Hicks & McRay and Co. shall continue so long as
the said company shall deem it safe and profitable. Made this
         3 Sep 1850.

Hicks. (He was age 34, father born in N.C.). The 1850 census
shows William and Lewis living with Harriet Hicks In Batavia,
            Cler., Ohio (p. 14; ages different -- William, 28, Lewis, 20)
Orville Jones Notes give the children as: William, Louis, Ruth,
and Alfred. (The firm mentioned in the will may be a law firm.)

XCENSUS--1900:

NOTE: This may be the wrong William HICKS. Orville Jones (1984) now thinks

that the correct William went to Dublin Indiana, (near Richmond).
Orville thinks that the above ("wrong"?) William is one of the Brown Co.
Hicks'. In that case, the "correct William may have been the one who
married Joanna WEST. (md. 3 Mar 1846--Cler. Co., Mar. rec.)(v_____p__)
also a poss. mar. to Elizabeth Judd, 1 Sep 1854; he a wid., 39, she 18)
