Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 2, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
- Gragg, William - born 4/15/1758 in Augusta County, Virginia; entered service 1779/80 Albemarle County, Virginia, where resided; moved after Revolutionary War to Surry County, North Carolina, thence to Burke County, North Carolina, where granted Penion in 1833 when resided there over 35 years; died 10/20/1847; married 7/14/1837 to Nancy Coffey, Burke County, North Carolina; widow granted Pension there in 1853 age 40; resided 1869 in Caldwell County, North Carolina, when Pension restored after Civil War; soldier's grandson Tilman Gragg applied for Pension in 1854 that he was present at marriage of soldier & Nancy Coffey; query letter in file statea a marker put up at Montezuma, North Carolina in memory of soldier; query letter in file states soldier married 1786 to Elizabeth Pulliam who applied for pension abt. 1853; query letter in file in 1922 from Elizabeth (Mrs. R.G.) Buckner, Asheville, North Carolina, states she was a descendant of Revolutionary War soldier John Shope (married Sara Gragg) & of John Gragg who had son Billy, who was also a Revolutionary War soldier, further John & son Billy Gragg were buried in Montezuma, North Carolina; query letter in file in 1899 from Adelaide Hoblit, Lincoln, Illinois, great granddaughter of Virginia Revolutionary War soldier William Gragg (husband of Miss Dunkle), further soldier entered service in Pendleton County, virginia & their youngest child her grandfather; query letter in file in 1894 from Isaac P. Gragg, Boston, Massachusetts states soldier married twice & 2nd wife died in North Carolina abt. 1889. F-W7570, R1104.

- A Last will and Testament in the Name of God Amen
- I William Gragg Senior of Yancey County & State of North Carolina, being in perfect mind and memory altho weak in Boddy and calling to mind the uncertainty of this life and knowing that my worldly Effects might go to them who are undeserving it, I do hereby make this my last will and Testament in manner and form following (towit)
- In the first place, I give and bequeath my soul to God who gave it hoping Through the merrits of Jesus Christ my redeemer that He will finally Raise both soul & body unto the ---- Glory.
- 2 Item At my death I give and bequeath unto my wife one bed & furniture and one bay mare & one pided cow and calf. This to be her own right & proper.
- 3rd Item I give & bequeath to my daughter Indianna one bed & furniture.
- 4 Item My tract of land containing 75 acres where I formerly lived on I leave to be sold & the money equally divided between my two children Indianna & Taylor Gragg.
- 5th Item I leave all my hogs to my wife to help raise my children on also I leave all my household and kitchen furniture to the use of my family.
- 6th Item I leave all the ballance of my property to be sold and the money Equally divided between my two children also leave one dollar apeace for Each of my older set of sons and daughters. Some debts due me I leave to be collected and the money put to the use of my children. I want my debts paid off and all the Ballance of the money put out on Interest until the children gets old enough to Receive it.
- Lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint John Gragg of the aforesaid County executor of this my Last Will and Testament Revoking all other wills or Wills made by me in anywise in witness whereof I have in the presence of Alfred Prichard and Major Gragg hereunto set my hand & affixed my seal this the Sixteenth day of October One thousand Eight Hundred & forty seven
