Parentage

Note Thomas Gwin has been mis-placed as a son of Robert Gwinn by some researchers, including a listing in the Cleek Book, which has apparently continued this mis-placement.

Notes

Thomas Gwin is mentioned in The History of the Gwin Family, by Jesse Blaine Gwin (1961). However, there is no documentary evidence of a son of Robert Gwin Sr. named Thomas. Researchers should treat this with caution.

--I am pretty sure Cleek is wrong and Robert & Jean never had a son named Thomas. Thomas who married Betsy Lockridge appears to be the son of Joseph Gwin & Mary Jane Kincaid, based on land records and wills (details in Joseph's descendants' entries). It also appears that Thomas lived and died in Augusta co and I have seen no evidence that he ever went to KY, although several of his children appear to have moved west to Wood Co VA (now WV). Or else Robert & Jean had a son Thomas who went to KY, but he's not the one who md. Betsy Lockridge and I've found no marriage in Augusta for him. [1]

    15. Thomas GWIN (Joseph3, Robert2, (Male)1) was born from 1765 to 1777 in Augusta Co, Virginia 8 and died from Dec 1847 to Jan 1848 in Augusta Co, Virginia at age 81.

Notes: Married April 8, 1800 Elizabeth Lockridge dau. of Samuel & Elizabeth Lockridge, migrated to KY. [Cleek p.96]
-- note that Cleek was talking about Thomas who was supposedly a s/o Robert & Jean (Kincaid) Gwin. Thomas should've married before 1795 when Joseph was born, so I'm not sure what to make of this marriage, which isn't recorded in the usual places in Augusta co as far as I know.
